Austinrod, I find your post extremely interesting!!! So many seem to feel that the matte black finish is something new but these photos and others I have seen prove otherwise. Do any of you guys know the approximate dates when these photos were taken? We just finished my 32 Ford Coupe last year and I selected a rubbed through black matte finish for a real traditional hard driving old school hot rod. I plan on really enjoying ( already have...all summer) and driving the tar out of it for quite a few years and then maybe when i'm older and grayer maybe I'll roll it back into the paint shop for a new gloss paint job. Is this limited to JUST matte finishes or 50 Shades of Black (except glossy)? This my Father in Laws coupe. It's more of a semi-gloss than satin like it was supposed to be.
Mercedes also has this type of paint available. I don't think the salesman appreciated it when I said I thought it was nice that you could get the car in primer and take it home and paint it any color you wanted. Charlie Stephens
Stole this one off the web. At least the rest of the internet is good for something! The roofs on these cars always looked good in my eye.
Austinrod, Thanks for the awesome photos of pure old school hot rods! You say early to late 50's.....Very Interesting!! The number 712 coupe is really bad and the 535 looks like a Rolling Bones build!! How about custom made hollow body matte black vintage style guitar to match my 32 coupe and the 270 Dodge Red Ram "Baby Hemi"! 32 Spitfire High Noon Speed Shop http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...f-the-battle-of-britain.983001/#post-11069470
I have always had a soft spot for black primer color cars/trucks......Back in the late 50's and 60's that was all we could afford....but still love them.
