I went to the first and would go pretty much every year until about 4 years ago. They had it at the Irvine Meadows one year and that was great. Got to see Joe Strummer a few months before he passed...:( That's the thing , there is usually a real good lineup. X, The Cramps, Big Sandy, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee, Junior Brown, Link Wray etc. Over the years the crowds got bigger, it got hotter, the cars got crappier and the fights started happennin'. 2 Years ago was my last time... Big ass brawl, too hot, and I got a brake scoop stolen off the roadster...nope.

  3. I think I probably have 2 dozen pictures of your pontiac just from those shows

I agree and keep going .Everyone stops going because there are to manny wannabes and posers. F#@k it If ya like going then go.
Time has a way of weeding out fakers .

  5. Damm where to start on this one every one of the negative things said about Hootenanny on here are true. I have been at almost every Hootenanny the last 4 as a vendor. Security is a joke. One security guard hiding in my booth when that fight was going on. I have six ladies helping me not cool at all to have the safety at risk. Those "amatures" were doing a lot more damage to each other then that videos show........ as my booth is in the back ground and had to protect my employees and my business myself. As guys stomped other guys jaws in to the dirt and then do it again. No one was safe ....... people got caught in it fighting cause the Wife, girlfriend. kid got over ran by it all. Then skin heads where over marching around and then stabbed someone. You can see everyone of the bands some where safer, and cool and enjoyable. damm even Hells Angels had a booth last year. This show is a joke anymore, promoters are to chicken SH@t to do anything aout cause they dont want to be to hard ass . Cause there afraid people wont go. Golden voice would not even admit there was a fight or a stabbing so I showed them that video ..umm odd only response was talk to our lawyers. Bedsled is my friend but this one your wrong on the wannabes and posers can have that show thats what the promoters want.
To you creepyjackolope your life or your wifes isnt worth it to see those bands. call it a loss save the plane tickets for some thing fun (primer nationals ) or something .....if have to use them go to the beach............it be a better time.

PS. here is Something for every HAMBer/ car guy/ good time and hot rods person out there here is a little thing for that Day a few bands and free BBQ I will be saving the back parking lot for all Hot Rods it fits 35 plenty of other street parking. flier says 5pm ......parking lot is all ages just not inside .I will be out there at 3 pm anyone is welcome to join me and talk shop . I am working on a bigger event in the near future, where you can bring your car, wife kids, girlfriends, neighbors or who ever and be safe.Enjoy good music, friends shop talk, some display car building talent. Anyone interested in being a sponsor from little to big contact me and I will give you the details.. cheers heres the flyer's now
Show up and show your support of not supporting wanna be gangs/ car clubs. [IMG]

We went to the first 2 shows when there were maybe 20 cars. It was fun back then.

Now the Hootenanny ( still can't figure why they named it that ) is a macho tough guy fest where music is back ground noise for most attendee's !

Last year a medevac Helicopter had to pick up a stabbed victim!

    Everything cool gets ruined !

I've been to a few through the years.diffently getting worse, bit fuck take a good look around the world, theres tough guy wantabes everywhere.I always took my lady and went with good friend and always had a safety spot for us to met if shit goes down which, as you've heard always seems too.Maybe since your flying into the show you could met some other hambers if anybody is attending this year,at least you'll know some faces and maybe feel a little at ease.I would say to arive later in the day if you wanted to some of the bigger bands, and just stay on the outer side of the crowd so no shit goes down behind you and you'll be fine.have fun,Ryno

  11. laughing the outer side of the crowd where do guys thing this happened last year it ended up over the whole event for good 40 mins. Where you think all the crap that happened at Blessing of the cars came from ??? Back fire from this crap.......What do you think these guys are not planning on trying to even the score this year. Its not like you cant get in.......... get searched and have a buddy toss crap over the fence in a million spots.

Having been to every one of them I'll tell you I am not going back due to my last year's experience.

It's hot as hell, expensive as shit and I have seen all those bands before. if it was run better I probably would still go.

for instance, I kept a security guard from killing a kid backstage last year, somebody threw up next to my car and water was $3

    that event fucking sucks now...

Hot Rod? I don't know about the first one, but I did the second-fourth (maybe 5th?) shows along with Anthony from the Shifters and a bunch of friends who got in for free for helping. It was a pain in the ass back then, before all the lame cholobilly 'bangers made it their rumble grounds. I wouldn't even think of doing that ever again. As for the car show, the Oak Canyon deal always sucked, cuz you had to be there ass-crack early and then not leave till "everyone" else had. Some of the promoters always said, "They get in for free, what do they expect?!" I don't know, but I learned quick--park in the parking lot, not the car show.

  14. For years I've wanted to attend this. I'm a real music fan and the line ups have been great. But, God damn it. That video is a piss off. I hope that it's been used in a court case to lock those punks up in a joint where they can meet some really BAD dudes. If those are club shirts I see, those clubs should be mentioned here. We NEED to know who these doinks are and ostrisize them. It won't be long before this escalates to gun play. Looks like I won't ever go now.

So, who ARE those clubs? Let's give them the attention they don't want. I've said this before. We do NOT want a return to the negitive attention from law enforcement that was common in the 50s and 60s. I know this for a fact. If we get lumped in with that element, we can kiss the freedom to run open headers and low cars goodbye. To a certain extent, hot rodders have to be self policing.

Look at the flipside to that--the "car-less" clubs start making a presence at regular shows, shows where there's never been a problem before, just to flex their muscle as it were. Fuck all those kooks. The Hootenanny as a car show ended years ago. Let the fights and bullshit die there too.

...ahhh man, i've heard it all.

...you got the tickets, and it sounds like your stoked to see Social D...GO! have fun, and just stay away from the trouble.

  17. Well, then I guess the upshot is that the days of mixing music and cars is over? Or the music will be limited to those propped up corpses that call themselves the Beach Boys at car shows? That's a hard pill to swallow, man.

sounds like 1992 lowrider shows all over again .

  19. Perhaps I saw a different side to it since I wasn't on the planning side, Im sure it was a lot of work and was a hassle. I just remember showing up, Hot Rod from Hot Rods fo Norco checked your plate and you drove in. No car checks, no hassles the first couple shows. After that came the security checks for understandable reasons. Leaving was always a hassle no matter what the year.

No, just referring to the Hootenanny. Seems most of the real BS is limited to that venue. And when you really think about "where" the show is staged--a rural park of sorts, with one way in and one way out, policed by Goldenvoice security--it's not that surprising.

And I'm not trying to keep anyone from going. You can avoid all this bullshit real easily, especially by not taking a car. I'm amazed they still include the car show at all. Even from a participant's perspective--you gotta be there by 6am, and you're not allowed to bring in any food or beverage (non-alcoholic included), but the vendors don't start selling anything till noon? Then supposedly hang around till all the spectators clear out? All that, just to save what, $50? No thanks.

Free entry? no such thing at the hoot. last years car show participants paid $20, this year it is $30, and they say no leaving but they really dont enforce it....

  22. I went to the Iron N Ink show and those same kind of knuckleheads were strutting around. The folks I was hanging with had to chase these chumps away from the cars. As it got later, it got worse. Jeff from the FoMoCo MoFos had a big ol' scratch put in his pretty car. There was a stabbing the night before we showed up. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that this shit is unacceptable, unless WE, the people who come to see music and enjoy seeing each others car, allow it. Certain clubs need to be banned from wearing their club colors. Cops hate that shit and will support any promoter who ask them to keep the gang crap out. If we don't find a way to distance ourselves from that attitude, we WILL be lumped in with it. And the bad old days of having a loud, low car drawing negitive attention from the heat will be on us, like stink on shit. I'm just saying, make the Walkabillies and Thugabillies have their own shows. If that's what the Hoot promoters (Goldenvoice?) want, then, you know we will not be there. But I want to go to shows and see bands and performers like Dave Alvin, Rev. Heat, and the Hacienda Bros at a show with my car and cars like mine. I don't think I'm wrong in saying that shit doesn't happen at Axle's shows. So, it IS possible. If it's clear to these turds that we don't think they're cool for acting out bad rap videos, and we will back the security people bringing the heat down, they'll go back to ripping the seats up at Staples Center and hitting each other on the heads with them. But if showing up at car shows, that have music, means a ride in the black & white cab without door handles inside, they'll pick somewhere else to be gangbangers.

I guess, to sum it up, I'm not willing to limit my car fun to breakfasts and the racetrack. Like a good American, I want it all.

do they have short stack 'o' dollar pancakes?

  24. The reason that street rodders are so fuckin' fat is that the short stack has gone the way of the dinasaur. Breakfast at most of these deals would feed a villiage. BUT, it the Walkabillies ever tried to knock the fork out of those street rodders mouths, it'd be WWIII. I needed my musician friend, Sir Nadeem, to help me clarify my thoughts. We need to be as tough as the Goldchainers about our territory. That's what I was driving at.

I'm with you Phil. Unfortunately, Hoot promoters aren't. Only thing they seem concerned with is the bottom $. Knowing now they charge the drivers of car show entries further proves that point. It sucks hearing that other events, such as the Queen Mary deal you mentioned, are experiencing this same shit.

  26. Life is full of assholes and unfortunatley they like to travel in large groups and start shit wherever they go. Phil has a point about policing our own, but the promoters also have a responsibility to thier patrons to provide a safe environment. It's not up to the people in attendance who paid to be there to provide security to the venue for the people making the profits. If this wanna-billy, tough guy, Fonzi and Richie dress up party, turf war and ass kicking contest continues the event will eventually shut down.

I've never been to the Hoot and have no intention of going...especially now. I'll stick to the parking lots and breakfast runs with my friends. So far, no one has tried to kick my ass or start shit with me (except for that jack off in Irvine) at any of these...and I've never had to pay $50.00 to sit around in the heat all day and let other people pay a PROMOTER to come and look at MY car.

A wise man once said that the best way to avoid a punch is to not be there when it is thrown...I think I will continue to avoid the punch.

  27. I couldn't agree more. The streetrodders seem more 'serious' about their cruises and what they do. No one would dare show up to one of their events and act like that. No, Im not saying events like the Hoot or Paso or whatever are not serious, Im just saying shows like the Labor Day Cruise in OC every year goes off with very, very few problems. Why? Im not 100% sure. Then again the Roundup goes off 5 years now without these kind of problems. Perhaps it is the bands they are signing and the location of the events...

  28. Well, fuck Goldenvoice then. But I don't understand how letting people get hurt or worse doesn't hurt the bottom line. Seems like lawyers would scury out from under their rocks to rape the insurers of these events. Man! The older I get the less I understand!

Maybe hold out till the Primer Nationals. Looks like some decent bands and the Hacienda Bros. will be there. I'm up for a good car show and music. Hell, if you live close to Redlands you can catch the original members of the Tornadoes play a couple shows.
