Looks like I picked up a running 8BA with an automatic. I also have a 39 trans I want to use behind it. Seems like a pretty straightforward swap, but is there anything goofy I need to know? I have a 49 Merc bellhousing, flywheel and clutch. Is there anything else I need to hook the two together?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- The starter plate from the automatic or any 8ba 'full' style bell housing will not work with the 'skinny' Merc or Pickup bell. The starter will sit at an angle and won't engage the flywheel right. Hopefully, you have the starter plate that came with the Merc bell.
