Even then, keep it closed and don't take part in the judging! :D

Closed .. I never open the hood, doors, or trunk. at the indoor shows I take the points hit. John Buck (AMBR) spotted me at the veterns car show at Loma Linda, Ca. this year and told me the had a class this yeay in Sato for cars that were not opened up. I've done it so long they don't ask or remind me to open up. Roger

always closed! a custom is about smooth flow and open doors and hoods only break up the flow. always feel like when someone leaves the car all open they might be trying to hide poor fit or gaps. a good custom is a whole bodyfit.

Closed! Its all about the final gaps that makes or breaks a custom.

  13. Closed ! While we are on this subject I have some other don'ts for everyone if they want to see their car in a magazine. Please don't surround your car with chairs or coolers . If you want to watch people look at your car put your chair back behind the car so I can get a good shot. Also if you own a pair of fuzzy dice burn them.

  14. IMO any club or organization that requires a custom to be judged with it's hood/doors/trunk open should not be giving away trophys for customs because they clearly have no idea what the essence of a great custom really is.

Closed. Always. Unless somebody asks to see it, then show 'em, and close it right back up.

Definitely closed. Open it if someone asks you about the engine and would like to see it.
    Then close it quick.

    Closed...always...!!!

But I like 49ratfink's idea...I think I'll shoot a picture of a blown big block, or a Hemi, and label that "My engine," that oughta confuse everyone...!!!

Another thing I absolutely detest is someone that opens the hood on a near-stocker and has a crappy rattle-can detailed engine, with paint right over the top of the grease...if it ain't even clean, keep the damned hood closed...!!!

I don't get exercised in the least on how anybody else chooses to show their car. I got better things to do.

I don't have a Custom, open the hood on my hot rod. If I don't, experience already tells me, just as many people want to see what's in there as people that have an adversion to lookin'.. If they don't want to see the motor, they can look away.

When anybody wants a picture with the hood closed, they ask. I give them permission; "go ahead on", I say. . .............. "close it"..:D

I prefer to see a car with the hood closed. If I want to know what's under the hood, I'll ask. More than likely they'll open the hood and show you anyway. I like to see the lines of a car and the paint as a whole, not all broken up with the hood and doors open.

best customs are the ones that are driving down the street. .kinda hard to drive with the hood open:cool: IF you have to stop..like everyone else said keep em closed unless asked.. and even then if its an idiot.. dont bother opening it.. kinda ruins the surprise is ya show someone whats under the hood before ya race em:D

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! KEEP THE HOOD, DOORS, AND TRUNK LID CLOSED!
Should a Custom be shown with the hood and doors open or closed? I have a 49 Olds with a Watson style scollope paint scheme. It has a 57Olds j-2 motor and has a 50's style interior. I think it brakes up the profile and paint schemeto open the hood and doors. Hot rods are ok with the hood open but I think a custom should be showned with closed. What do you think?
In most of the clubs in our area, a closed hood is a guaranteed way to NOT get a trophy. At least in our club, points are awarded for (1) paint and body (2) interior (3) engine compartment and (4) chassis. Losing a quarter of your points isn't a good thing!
Well, that's as good a reason I can think of to not enter a car show. lol Guess I'm burned out on car shows.

Absolutely positively CLOSED. I HATE going to shows and seeing all those cars with their hoods open. It's all about the architecture and stance. Open hoods ruin it for me.
