My landlords' 57 Desoto has been lowered for many years by adjusting the torsion bars. It looks good but riding on the bump stops sucks. We both searched for somebody that makes 2" drop spindles for full size chrysler 'C' bodys. The closest found were made by fatman fabrication for an 'E' body which is the mid size line like 'cudas. Fatman said they might fit. After they arrived found no dice, not even close. But it was not such a bad thing as it got us thinking how easy these would be to make at home.
First thing we reverse engineered the stock spindle. These were from a 70's Monaco with disc brakes. Copied all the bolt pattern dimensions to sheet metal, and then transfered the hole centers to 3/4 plate. A local machine shop machined the spindle spuds to our dimensions, the rotor position had to be moved outboard .250 or would rub on the lower control arm.
We had the machine shop bore the center for the spindle , using liquid nitrogen they chilled the spud enough for it to slip into the 3/4 plate. I believe they said it was a .005 interference fit.
Back home we made up a jig to copy the old spindle's upper ball joint taper. Today we got one side tacked together and fit it on the ball joints. So far it looks good, other than the brake hose now rubs . The fix is to switch the calipers side to side, the bleeders will be on the bottom, but should be able to bleed them removed and right side up.

Here is the stock spindle in the jig.

This is the new one in the jig getting it setup to tack the upper ball joint mount in place.

As for SAI, hunter alignment machine has spec of 7.5 degree. I thinks this is in the ball park!

Still have to work on the caliper mounting brackets and remove the extra metal on the 3/4 plate

Welded the upper ball joint mount last nite. Started on trimming the 3/4 plate.

Next step is to send back to machine shop to mill the mounting area for the caliper bracket.

Well the spindle plates are back from the machine shop, they removed a total of .300 from the 3/4 plate, and the stock mopar caliper bracket. Every thing looks like it should drop right in.
This pic shows why we had to move the rotor outboard .250 Good thing!

Next thing is to set final ride height and check the alignment.
