Holy CRAP!!! I just won the lottery!

Totally O/T, so the mods may delete if I'm too far off base here, but I want to share my AMAZINGLY good news with you guys!!!

First off, I didn't win the powerball. [I can still wish tho ]

Many years ago, I had a crappy mobile home on a couple acres a few miles outside of town. I let my cousin live in it rent free, since she was comming off a very bad and abusive relationship, and was totally down on her luck.

To make a very long story short, her abusive ex-boyfriend tracked her down, and burned the trailer down while she was at work... He went to jail, there was an insurance claim, bla, bla, bla...

Old news, I had completely forgotten about the entire affair.

Yesterday, I was surfing the net, and saw something about unclaimed money, so I googled it...

HOLY HELL!!!
Turns out, the creep who burned my place down had passed away in 2008, and left behind some life insurance. His estate settled up with the court ordered restitution claim against him for my property. The state has been holding $16,000 for me for over a year!

I spent all day today on the phone with my attorney, and the insurance company who settled the claim with me 15 years ago.......

Just got the final call from the home office in Ca.... It's free and clear. The money is mine, and the insurance company has no claim to it!

YAHOO!!!!!

I'd say it's worth checking to see if any of you Guys and Gals might have some unclaimed money out there!

 

Time to orderer some parts for the rod.

Very cool. Ive checked before. I have like 3 dollars owed to me on some website my wife found. Its from an over payment on an old electric bill. Woohoo! Not worth the time.

Wow...good thing you looked! Would you post a link to the site please?

I know you know this, but I'll say it anyway. Spend the money wisely. $16,000 seems like a lot, but it'll be gone before you know it, and it'd be nice if when it is gone, that you feel good about what you spent it on. Good luck with everything.

I was reading a news article about unclaimed money being held by the government, so out of general curiosity, I checked myself.

Funny thing is, the first site I checked was for a national database, and it didn't show anything for me, but down at the bottom, in small print, it advised to check the site for your home state, as well as any state you might have lived in incase the national database didn't include that info........ Glad I checked the fine print!

It will be spent wisely. The house is ready for a new roof, and the twins are off to college this fall.... I might even splurge and take the ex-wife out to dinner. LOL

Seriously tho, I live well within my means and am very carefull with my money.
