I got the pictured Holley in a package purchase a couple of years ago. I was told it came off a running Chevy small block. Of course, I have no idea how long it was sitting on a garage shelf. I've determined it's a 4160 600 cfm. I believe the date code comes out to the 118th day of the year, most likely 1979. Do you see anything I should know about the carb? I'm not sure if I want to get a rebuild kit for it or pass it off (honestly) to someone who might be able to use it. Any info / thoughts would be appreciated.
looks like a garden variety 1850 600cfm - very common and good for most mild v8s.....put a kit in it and go - not worth much like it is
"He" was not careful to not photograph the carb number (1850-8) as "he" determined, by checking a Holley chart, that it is a 600 cfm 4160. Nothing nefarious here on his part. As stated in his initial post, "he" was interested in anything "he" might pass on to someone interested in the carb. Thanks to ididntdoit1960 and Deuces for their input.
Maybe an 1850-8 but not an 1150-8..... I always keep a few of those around. They are quick to throw a kit in and swap for a problem child. Holley's tech page gives you their original jets, power valve, squirter, pump cm, etc. Easy to go back to square one with them. SPark
Sounds like you already had it identified. Seems a bit strange to ask for help with the ID, then not provide the clues that would let us help you ID it. (the LIST number) I'm glad you got some useful info out of that, somehow.
It does appear to have been dropped on the throttle arm, is the primary throttle shaft still moving smoothly?
If the shafts move freely, and you are looking to sell it, tell the prospective buyer to rebuild it and put the $ 75.00 in your pocket. That's about all it's worth. Judging by the plastic secondary cover, I'd say it's from the late '80's to mid '90's, maybe even later. Either way, it's a very common and reliable carb.
LM14, thanks for bringing my typing mistake to my attention. I got my info from the tech page. Fordors, everything moves smoothly but I wondered about things being bent. I don't have one here to compare with but I'll dig further. 427 sleeper, I just assumed it was a replacement carb from 1979 (last digit of the date code). Thanks again, guys. Case closed?
