We usually have about 50-60 cars show up at the TSC parking lot in Imlay City, Michigan every Thursday night through the season. A lot of different types of vehicles, including traditional rods and customs. Fewer this week though...I think the threat of rain kept a lot of 'em away. I included some pics, though there were only a few that you guys might like to see. But...I'd like for you to pay special attention to the custom 1953 Studebaker. My buddy Ken Jones owns it, and he's looking for any history you guys can provide. I've been told it was featured in the May '61 Car Craft. The name of the man who customized it is Chuck Goering. Chuck chopped the top, added '58 Hawk fins, changed the headlights and a few other things...all with lead work. I think the car was painted black or maybe maroon when Chuck owned it. The present owner (Ken) found the car in a junkyard a few years ago. It was in rough shape, and he did a lot of work to bring it back. He didn't alter any of the custom work that Chuck had done, except for adding the '55 Chevy grill and painting the car metallic silver. He just had the pinstriping done last week. If you have any further info, by all means please share. Thanks, and enjoy the pics of the other cars. Maybe we'll have a few more to show you next week. - Rick Ken's Studebaker. A bit of the pinstriping and the name Ken gave to the car. Willie's extremely nice 1948 Doge pickup. Willie and his wife are regulars on Thursdays. 302, auto, 9" George's 1940 Buick. 425 c.i.
Ed's 1949 shoebox Ford. 302, auto, 9" And last, but certainly not least, Hawk's custom 1954 Hudson Hornet. Victory motorcycle tail lights. Dodge covers with a bullet. 308 Twin H
No history, just some info on the parts used, the site did mention it was in the 1960 Car Craft mag, but just one image
Good to see it was bought by somebody who cares.. hope he will bring it back to a more 1960's feel...
Rikster! Happy to have your input. Thanks for the pics. Ken has a few of those same ones in the scrapbook that came with the car, but not all of 'em...so he'll appreciate that. As far as giving the car "more of a '60s feel", do you have any suggestions? Steel wheels, whitewalls and wheel covers would pretty much do it outwardly I guess. The blackwall tires, chrome steelies and baby moons that Ken has on the car now look pretty good, but I wonder if I could get him to revert back to the wheel/tire combo it had back in the day? I don't know...we'll see. I can't quite make out the wheel covers in those pictures. Anybody know what they might be? The interior is plenty nice enough, done in dark gray pleats, but in a more modern velour. I wonder how it was upholstered when Chuck had it? Looks like it was a dark color then too. I imagine probably vinyl. It'd look great in leather or vinyl tuck and roll, or diamond tufted or something, but I might have a tough time convincing Ken to do it over again...lol.<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
This '53 Studebaker used to be around Jefferson City. I don't think it exists anymore. The top was cut off, doors welded shut and cut down.
When I first saw the pictures, I thought UGH! But the more I open this thread, I am learning to really like it and think it was a shame it was let go for so long. I would like to see the return of the white walls and full caps.
Yeah, I know...but he's from Liverpool and about as old as the Beatles, so I try to cut 'im a little slack. <!-- / message --><!-- sig -->
