The back straight at Nashville. Coming off turn two and across the tunnel the cars would sometimes get upset and this would result.

Fuzzy real first name was Harley.. He rode a Harley Davidson shovel head and it was painted orange.. He told the story of a police pulling him over and before asking for drivers licence they asked his name.. He said Harley Orange..The cop thought it was a joke and almost pulled fuzzy over his bike..

This is correct. Dodge offered a 440 and a 500 body trim line in 65 on the Dodge Coronet car line. Could be a 65 Dodge Coronet 440 with a poly 318, 383, or a 426 wedge with a 4 speed. Suppose it also could have had a slant 6 with a 3 speed, or even a V8 with the 3 speed....A 440 engine could have been swapped in as well, it would have been a bolt in affair. If it isn't all rotted out, $1000 isn't a bad price. Gene

Hey guys, got a couple questions I'm hoping someone can answer for me. In the northern IL, southern WI and eastern Iowa around the early to mid 60s, coupes were still the car for dirt track racing. I intend to build a street version of this era dirt track car, and have a 48 Plymouth coupe body shell as a starting point. I know all the cool cars were 30s coupes, but this 48 is here, available, and good for very little else. My car will be complete with a roll cage, but on a newer frame. Since I was a kid when these things were racing, I remember very little more then the old bodies and the wide tires. This would have been a couple years before the advent of the "late models".

I'm presuming the roll cages were built with 1 1/2" black pipe, and the pipe was likely cut and welded at the corners as compared to being bent? I'm also pretty sure those couples were fenderless, but was it possible they had fenders? Is it possible someone has a picture or 2 of a 46-48 Plymouth in race trim from this area and time period, or am I way off with this project? Gene

At Talladega, 1988: Ramo Stott has just sold the Superbird and it appeared that weekend at the wing car reunion. Aside from the tires, the car is exactly as it came off the track in 1972. When it was done running, Ramo pulled the engine and kept the car in storage. He had a ride in the Pierce Brothers Charger for '73, and did not need to rebody the car. As the years went by, lots of folks knew he had it but it wasn't for sale. Finally, a fellow in Iowa was able to buy it and there it was. It was amazing to see intact and as raced. The car raced as #7, #77 or #47 depending on the year and series. It raced in ARCA, NASCAR and USAC.

Thanks, guys. I just got a look at a photo of the car and it's way wrong. It's not even the right body style that Plymouth used in 1965. Thanks again.

    Sunday post.....

A few posts ago there was a reference to L.J. Lines. I found a photo of his car at an Eldora race, probably 1967.

I also have a similar one from Dayton Speedway, but it's a different paint job, but still using # 76. I'll post it when I get it scanned.

L.J . ran a lot of races in the tri-state area - it seemed like he was always at the track, whichever speedway I'd be going to that weekend.

    Enjoy..

While I was at IRP (I left in September of 2000), L.J. was still running IMCA type modifieds. And doing pretty well, too.

    Riverside, Calif........."Winston 500"........Jan, 1972

This race was delayed several hours by fog obscuring the track, then was cut short by 100 miles.

When we were running ASA L.J. was running a metalic brown Camaro with a big block Chevy that was a screamer. I think the last time he ran a big block was the Dri-Power 400 at Winchester.Allstarracing

Here's another from "Hey, I know that guy..."

This is Larry Moore - very early on, probably 1965 @ Eldora

    Enjoy

Vegas Oldtimer - it looks like the Eldora shot of Moore was likely taken on the same day as the LJ Lines shot, and it had to have been at least '68. They're both parked in front of the same Ford tilt cab hauler, and if you look just to the left of that hauler, there's a '68 Torino.
