Hey i'm fitting a Hilborn injection system to a flathead in a racecar , and i'd like to mount the pump directly off the end of the cam in some way. Has anybody got any info or advise on this please. I have real limited space and if it is not possible to run off the cam it is likely to change alot of other stuff i'd rather leave Any advise will be greatly appreciated Spock
Contact Hilborn. I have seen injector pumps driven of of: Cam shaft Distributor Belt drive Take your pick
if you're mounting the fuel pump off the front of the cam, where are you mounting your distributor? are you running a supercharger? if so, either algon or hilborn (i can't remember) used to make a pump that mounted off the back of the supercharger and was driven off of one of the impeller shafts.
The type of drive you are talking about is pretty common for Chevy's Ford small block, Hemi's etc but I can't recall one for Flathead's. These would be the more common type for flat motor's
Here is a pic of what I did on a couple of flathead engines. It takes quite a bit of room up front to do it this way. Some Hilborn injector base castings had a mount on the front similar to a generator mount to take a pump. Another possibility is a Weaver type mount under the header and next to the block driven with a cog belt. Similar to modern sprint cars and midgets.
Look at my build thread post #595 it shows what we did for the blower motor http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=645702&page=30 Tim Jones
As Tim and I have done it http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=531757&page=10 K ....................................... Taildragger&fenderless
