Henry J Gasser pictures

This is the old Henry J that resides with me in Georgia now. It was built in the late 50's in Millersburg Missouri by my dad and his closest group of friends. This old car was a drag car in the early 60's and broke the AHRA 1/8th mile C/A class multiple times. In the late 60's my sister was born and it sat in a barn for a few years. In the 1970's my dad got it titled as a 1948 Henry J, painted it, made it road worthy and we as a family of five ran the NSRA circuit, ( arguing with the NSRA officials at every event about its age)! In the early 80's the Nostalgia Drag Racing Association was born so back to the drag strip my dad went, with me in tow. At the ripe old age of FOURTEEN, I made my first pass down the 1/4 mile drag strip in Tulsa Ok. The old car gave my old man and I years of street and strip fun. I moved to Georgia in 90, dad kept playing with it for years including the 1st Annual H.A.M.B. Drags and as many of them that he could make and battle cancer. In 2006 he decided to leave us, and it took the 900 mile trip to Georgia with me. At that time it had been sitting a good while so I went through it end to end, making the NEXT H.A.M.B. Drags available. I have been back a few times along with any other Nostalgia drags I can fit in my schedule. I plan on returning soon to Joplin, but it's not in the cards this fall!! Until then, I will enjoy this baby until I can't, then I'll pass it on to mMY son, to enjoy with his kids!!!

Got some lettering done on a carshow a couple of weeks ago. Starting to get in shape now

 

My partner and I built this J in the mid sixties as an A/GS with a blown 486" low rise Ford in it. We parked it in '67 to spend time in the service and replaced it with a '69 Mustang AA/GS when we returned. Loaned it to some friends to run the brackets and it was eventually sold to a fellow who put it back on the street. Sorry, we heard it came to an unfortunate demise in a street racing accident. Condolences. Loved that car.

Hey Henry,
Any takers or photos from those Henry J Facebook sites? My friend's Henry J was blue, had lots of aluminum panels inside, and the odd 409/4 speed installed. It was a very fast car for the street. I never saw it run at the drags at Lions. It was probably as fast, if not faster than my 58 Impala with all of the goodies on it. (we, both, were inside of the other's cars during a race, but never against each other)
