Got the trunk back from the blaster needs a bit of work to the bottom and top lip New metal put in Got the trunk lid finished up now, had to replace the bottem 3" and a small section at the top. Coated the inner skin with some waxoil before putting it back together.
Hi Kelv, Coupe is looking great mate, love the dash, chop and fabrication work, body dont look too bad,is it better in the pics? re: the old petrol tank...you forest boys will try any 'new age fuels' eh?! lol Take it easy mate
I finally got the body back from the blasters today. He left this bit on the rear panel to show me how much bondo was in there, about 1/4" thick. All the old patch panels were just braised on over the old rusty panels and covered in bondo a real bodge job. This must be the worst repair job I have ever seen. A piece a sheet steel was tacked over the hole in the fire wall and the panel beads were formed in more bondo. Its all set up on the spinner jig now for all the repair work.
I'm sure it looked worse in person, but I'm pretty amazed that the post blasting firewall pic you have above is the same one that's in this picture. Patch jobs look pretty bad, but the guy did have some bondo skills. To hide that sheet metal and build up the ridges must have taken some time...could have spent that time just doing it right the first time.
Been doing lots of sheet metal work the last few weeks to try and sort out all the crap repair work. Cut out all the bad stuff , repaired the inner structure and fitted new patch panels Had to make this piece To go in here Made up a hammer form to make the beads in the rear fender well Fire wall next ;D
wow that bondo tumor is a trip lol other wise the rest of the body looks in good shape , nice project
Front part of the floor is now done, I keeping with the rivet theme. First formed the tunnel out of two pieces and added a swage into them Then made the two floor pans, the drivers side has a opening for the master cylinder Then added the rivets. The whole front part of the floor is going to be bolt in.
Love the build! Could you snap some pictures of your spinner jig? I need to build one of these and this one is awesome! A few overall pictures and some close ups would be extremely helpful. Thanks, Greg [/QUOTE]
