Hot Rods Help value a real barn find 37 ford hot rod.

Hi, first thanks for any help anyone can provide. I don't know a lot about the car, but here is what I know. A local gentleman is trying to help the widow of his good friend by selling a couple of his friends cars.

The seller doesn't know what to ask for the cars. It's a really cool 37 couple with
some vintage modifications. For our area, it looks to be in good shape. I think the car is going to be out of my price range, but given the noble cause, it would be nice to help the seller establish a value. I'm going to send a link to the seller so he can see responses himself. If anyone with knowledge could have a look and provide feedback, it would be greatly appreciated.

The car is believed to be complete minus the motor ( possibly trans? ) , which was last a small block chev.

tell them the first thing they need to do is get the car out of the mess where it is at and clean all the junk out that does not belong. any value someone gives will be useless with the pictures provided and no details.

 

Agreed. Clearer photos with an unobstructed view would really help.

The listed asking price of $1.1 million is a wee bit on the high side. Looks like all of the sheetmetal is there. Fair value? Somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000 I would think.

 

^^^ This is correct. What is visible looks like a pretty cool car though.

 

Thanks for you input guys. The gentleman who is selling the car is doing so for the widow of his friend, I'm not sure if it's practical for him to pull the car out and clean it up.
I do understand what you are saying though. There is likely also the matter of being sensitive to the widow, not to mention the seller's loss of a good friend. Any input is appreciated though I'm sure.

 

That's what I'd say too, depending on condition which we can't see much of and assuming it has a title.

 

Appreciating the widows, and friends feelings, it still will need to be viewed properly..that means getting it out of the barn out on the open.
That is the first step, second step doesn't come into play, until the first step is done.

 

1.111..... million dollars? Sounds fair. "Roll it outside for a better look..." Yeah. Good idea.

Who came up with that price? "Should sell fast..."

 

That ad sums up why Craigslist sucks. A clapped out car with crap piled all over it with a stroke price and description is not a barn find, nor is it a way to get honest help or advice for someone who lost a family member.

 

Offer him a price that includes you cleaing it off and hauling it out.

If it's not rotty there's probably $5K there. A pile of clothes inside isn't good, good chance of rats nests at the bottom or just the clothes themselves holding moisture and rotting the floorboards.

I agree with the $5000 to $10,000 price range, but we would really need to see the car better to give an accurate idea of the value. They are only worth what the buyer will pay, and southern Vancouver Island is full of collector cars for sale at any given time, so there will be a lot of competition.

 

6 grand tops, gotta figure the costs in chemical and soap getting all that rat shit and garbage out of the car, if it's practical of course.
