So I'm trying to put some bat wings on my axle, but the location of the tie rod keeps them from mounting. I noticed on my dads roadster that the tie rod ends go into the tie rod arm from the top rather than the bottom. How do I achieve this? This will solve my problem but mine won't work. Thank you! Does it not need to have that taper? Or will a reamer give it that taper Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You use a tapered reamer, you can get one thru Speedway also of the right taper. Sent from my SGH-T399 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
the taper is 7 degrees or 1-1/2" per foot this is it: https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Tapered-Ball-Joint-Reamer-7-Degree,2918.html
someone in your area may have one you could borrow or do it for you i have two of those reamers , stop by my place and i will do them for you....just buy me lunch
Thanks everyone. I might know someone with one You close to Carthage Missouri? Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
You can only ream them half way; mark a tie rod end far it goes in the bottom and just do the top side until the end goes to your mark. Sent from my Nexus 5X using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
last ford spindles I did I was able to ream about 2/3 deep for more surface contact but had to use a washer below the nut to line up the cotter. like Rich states pull the rubber boot off you tie rod ends and mark the end of the taper . ream your steering arm until you hit the mark or till you feel there is enough meat touching. 50% or more would make me feel safe.
You might look at tapered end mills they can be bought cheaper.http://www.industrialboys.com/colum...008&referer=&compidcookieset&sessioncookieset
