The reason you don't see pictures of 55 Merc "GASSERS" is because nobody ran em...too big, too heavy and one hell of a hard fit to get anything in em without major work.........everyone building so called "gassers" out of things that never happened...55 Mercs are just not good candidates for that type of car..........will wind up in the weird section.

So it's a little heavy, build what YOU like, always good to see something DIFFERENT !! Throw in a BIG BLOCK -- won't be the fastest, but will get attention...

That car is a 54, as indicated by the full height fully exposed taillamps lenses.
The 53s have shielded lenses that peek out from the chrome shield.

These are some pics of a Ford from the same era which shares the same basic body.According to specs I have seen a 2 dr Ford weighed about 3250 the Mercs around 3400-3500 take away the Y-block and cast iron transmission and add a 302 Ford with aluminum goodies and a C4 and you will drop 250-300 pounds. There are some more members that posted 52-54 Ford gasser pics in archives.

Radius wheel wells can be built with round tubing for an edge, if you can find some spare front fenders use them for donor wheel openings so they match the front...Build what you want man, welding with no rules is the best!!!

  19. Damn, I second that on the poster. That is one hell of a shot!;)
