I believe it's a 396 ,427 big block Chevy . It's the big 2 barrel carbs would like some info on how they performed maybe see pictures of some on motors
It looks like a reworked edelbrock to me, note the shape of the plenum on the ends http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162041
Check the size of the distributor hole, a 409 is bigger than a regular big or small block. REALY COOL! Gary
For the guys that say home brew.... I can see man-e-fre doing some real homebrew, especially in the experimental stages.
I just picked this thing up at the swap meet in bowling green at the hot rod reunion this weekend the man I got it from has had it for a long time he swears it is an original piece not made up but I agree it does look that way. It is for the big base carbs I would like to add adapters to change it to the small base carbs
Agreed, that is not an original Man-a-fre intake. And as the designer/manufacturer told me, these are NOT manifolds (per the meaning of word "manifold") these are "plates" as he told me when I was at his house MANY years ago learning how to setup and run this thing from the designer, (sorry, don't recall his name). While the above crossram is interesting, an original Man-a-fre, it isn't. BUT, this guy liked messing around. So it MIGHT be something that he experimented with. Just like making the old GM carburetors flow more. The main body was opened up by removing the center and filling the open areas with epoxy (JB-Weld) and recontouring the center to keep the ventury effect. Then there was two ways of finishing the project. Make up an oval butterfly plate or doing some grinding of the base plate and use the original butterfly plates. I did both, both worked to increase flow, both were a lot of work..! Mike
The hole for the distributor on my 409 is 1.696 check yours, it looks 409 to me. Have you mated it to a big block head? Gary
Appears normal small/big block to me. Despite rumers to the contrary, unless it was like this intake possibly is (one off custom), the Man-a-Fre guys never made an intake for the 348/409. Mike
A few years ago I found a sbf intake on fleabay and the seller claimed it was a Man-A-Fre as well. It had the holes where the plate was but did not have the plate now. I understood them to be manifolds modified by Man A Fre but I have no proof what so ever. Edit: I did a quick search and found this ad from Jan this year. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RARE-289...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
