Here is the deal, I have the tail light I'm going to use. 40 Ford, the wife has spoken. So, changing the lense is the last resort, i.e. out of the question. So, here are your choices. Use, the buckets that I have made (the thought is to keep the truck close to stock, but with a custom twist to a few things.) Change the top of the buckets I've made to eliminate the flat section, and follow the "V" in the lense. French the light into the fender ( I'm not a real fan of frenched tail lights). OR.... Mount them to the fenders, which will mean I need to get some lexan, and make lenses and bezels that fit the conture of the fender, but will replicate the exact design of the 40 Ford. Side note, the one photo shows how the lense is not square to the rear when mounted to the surface of the fender, so keep that in mind when picturing the depth needed to french these lenses, and I would more than likely create a new bezel that will square them to the rear ( wider on the outer edge ) if I mount them to the surface of the fender. Thank you for your imput. Here is a quick mock up of the frenching.
I like the buckets in pic #1. They should even look better when painted the color of the truck. They'll have greater side visibility than fender mounted or frenched, plus they'll have the Ford truck look.
I'm with unkledaddy, the buckets definately have the "truck look". Once the buckets are body color those taillights will "pop". If you want to contour the buckets to the bezel shape, that would be trick too. The frenched idea is lost on me on this particular vehicle. Johnnie.
Very cool truck. V notched buckets. DO NOT french them into the fender. My opinion.. Frenching doesn't complement the shape of the fender..
Well, when you have a cut off wheel, and a welder, and just don't care. You can do this stuff. Here is one of the buckets, I went ahead and put a "V" to it!
I would go with the buckets with the v. I had a 64 chevy stepside that I put 39 ford taillights in the fenders and you could not see the taillights very good from behind unless you were at a angle. The fenders curved to much and I bet you will run into the same problem.
