I got these at a garage sale but I have no idea what they are off of. If they are something I can use then great, but it not I will clean them up and sell them. What do these fit, and whats the best way to clean them up?
Wow, that was fast. Since I dont have a SBF looks like I will clean them up and sell em. Thanks Guys!!! Oh yeah, what years will they fit?
Depending on how much you value your time, I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time making them pretty. Even in real nice shape you aren't going to get rich off of them so you might actually fare just as well putting them on Ebay as is and letting the new owner do the hard work. I would just give them a quick wipedown to make them look a little better and bring the red out a little more and call it a day. These don't bring a whole lot but they are pretty cool. Just a thought. Don Here is a similar set on Ebay right now to give you some perspective. He is asking $99 but no takers yet. His shipping cost is also way too high. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Mic...Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item415d4a48da
Don is right about spending a lot of time on them. You don't see a lot of Ford covers l around though or at least I don't. That makes them a little more interesting. And as Squirrel has noted here if they do not say made in Japan they will be worth a little more to someone who knows. Still not a high dollar piece.
Well if I can get $100 for them I would be stoked. My buddy has a blast cabinet so I may just blast em a lite and eBay them.
like these? They gotta be pretty nice to fetch that much....there's also a set of NOS in the box covers that hasn't sold for $160 170729890069
I sold a nice pair of them this summer that needed nothing for $60, and that seemed to be about the limit.
I gave 30 dollars shipped for a pair for Big Block MOPAR last year. They were old originals not made in Japan or Taiwan. I guess they would be worth a little more now but not that much more.
As far as the "Japan" talk goes, take it with a grain of salt. I've owned several pairs of original Cal Custom finned covers for the pre-'69 SBCs with no oil holes in them that were sold in the mid to late '60s, and they had "JAPAN" cast on the underside. It's how it was, even then. My Ansen swing pedals, which I know are 40 years old, have "TAIWAN" stamped on the bracket.....although, Ansen strategically placed their logo sticker over it!
China is the new Japan. If a part like that was made in Japan, it was probably from the late 60s to the early 80s.
