Help me fix my Emo water pump...it weeps.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by JK, Jan 31, 2012.

  1. New SBC. Good water pump. It's weeping out the top of the hose. Ive loosened the clamp, adjusted the hose and moved the clamp closer down towards the rib at the end of the outlet and re-tightened the clamp. It's still weeping slightly. Any ideas?

Probably has a casting seam or some kind of bump on the snout that needs sanded off.

maybe you have the wrong hose, it should fit really snug, if its to large then they are hard to stop leaking.

  4. Thanks guys. I went out this morning and it's still weeping, just not as bad. I guess I'm gonna have to drain the system and pull the hose and take a look at it. Not thrilled about that. Should I strip the paint off the hose nipple and "scuff" it? I'll look at the hose size too. I may scuff the inside of the hose too.

The clamp needs to be pretty darn tight, I like to tighten them with a 1/4" drive ratchet (carefully not to overtorque). If it's a new hose, you usually have to go back and tighten them all again after you drive for a little while.

  7. Did you cut some off the old hose to the end is fresh? The new pump fittings should be clean, look them over to make sure the pump wasn't dropped (at the factory of course...) and has not-so obvious damage.

  8. Squirrel, I'm using a socket to run the clamp down and it's on pretty tight. I may throw a second clamp on just as a quick fix. I'm anxious to get this motor broke in and hear it run.

You shouldn't have to drain all the water to remove the top hose. I would remove it and clean the paint off and make sure there isn't any 'rough' spots. Nutdriver tight is usually enough. You would think it would be the right size diamater if it fits the radiator. Old hose in good condition?
