I had a 270 Red Ram in a 1946 Military Weapons carrier. Looked like a Suburban, only more bitchen.
I rebuilt it stock and it hauled that 6000 beast like it was nothing. I had 2 Caddie 500's in it to smoothe out the ride. 10, 3/8 leafs in the back made for a lane changing ride over the smallest bump, ergo the 500's.
You'll get plenty of oomph in that hot rod.

  3. I don't know if I'm qualified or not here but I drove a 1954 Dodge Royal
stocker in the late '60's as a daily driver. 241 Red Ram hemi
150 HP in a 3700 pound car. 2 speed powerflyte auto trans.
    Autolite dual point distributor.
2 barrel carb. bigger than stock jets.
It would easilly break 100 MPH stock.
With oversize Cadillac tires it would break 65 MPH in first.
I didn't see it mentioned, but this little baby hemi was originaly
    built as Chrysler's Indianapolis engine.
I never had a tach, but it would wind like crazy!
I remember seeing RPM numbers of over 6,000 listed
in some of the old magazines.
In a Model A (which I use as a car all the time) I have a 110 HP Merc.
If I ever change it I want a slightly hopped up 241 Dodge.
A stock D-500 Offenhauser manifold, 4 barrel, headders, trick dizzy.
    And a tach!
    Just my $.02. 54_Dodge.jpg

When I was in college I collected a pile of parts for a 27 roadster and I snagged a 241 red Ram hemi motor for it. This was back when there was little info on the old hemi's, and Hot Heads was new to the game. I got a few things from them and they were really helpful. I did learn that the Red Ram heads would bolt on to the 315 Dodge poly motor, and as luck would have it, found a 315 poly for $50 locally. Never got past that point , As I sold my roadster project in order to buy a '70 Challenger RT/SE, Plum Crazy 383 Magnum pistol grip 4-speed project car....

Loved that color. Had a 1970 Chevelle SS painted from the factory 1969 Nova, purple color. Took an extra 2 months to get it.

    Hey Tony,

That is awesome story!! Well said on the Dodge "Baby Hemi" . Zach at Thunder Road Rod Shop in Mansfield, Ohio who built the frame for my coupe below has a standard Dodge 241 in his T roadster and just loves it. They will fit well in the small hot rods and like I said above get decent gas mileage. When I fire mine up it just plain out roars through those nine inch glass packs and is pure music when up to speed cruising down the highway!

This 241 has a Schneider 440 lift camshaft, and glasspacks inside the pipes. The video is long, but the first couple of minutes will give you the sound. I built the car a dozen years ago, it has over 23,000 miles as of today, great little engine ! P1010011.JPG

Above I mentioned earlier in this thread about running up to 60 mph on just the center carb. Well on our recent trip to the Good-Guys in Columbus we were cruising along at 80 mph and I asked my friend Doug who built the engine and who was driving at the time are you just running on the center carb and he said yep! Then he kicked in the other two....!! Mercy.

The three 94 progressive set up provides really good gas mileage and plenty of power to spare!
