Help ID Motor

Merry X-Mas,

I'm trying to fiqure out what size/make motor i have. The only number I am able to find is located on the right front side of the engine block, the number is 161342 YD. I was told that it came out of a Pontiac ???

It's probably a 400ci Pontiac, but could be a 389 or 455. You can run the YD engine code here: http://www.wallaceracing.com/ Their page will give you other info on head and block castings that should help you narrow it down.

 

Frank...with a Pontiac you have to know the year of the motor as they used the same code letters sometimes that meant different things. YD could be a 350 one year and a 400 the next. The date is at the back by the distributor...or get the casting number that will narrow it down to a couple year span..that is at the back too...they seem to change the casting number every few years or so..
