Technical Help I.D.ing AFB carbs

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 550Coupe, Nov 25, 2017.

  1. I have two old AFB four barrel carbs with no tags and have been unable identify them. Maybe someone can help. Here's what info I got off the carbs:
    Carb #1
    # 11 stamped on left front edge of carb base, # 6-1779 on top of carb next to air horn, throttle bores 1 7/16" primary, 1 11/16" secondary.

    Carb #2
No number on carb base, S-S stamped on front right corner of carb top, # 6-1779 on top of carb next to air horn, Throttle bore 1 7/16" primary, 1 11/16" secondary.

    Thanks in advance, Art

carbking did do a thread on AFB's, but I can't find it now. Maybe do a search of his postings off his profile page? I know there are "some" he recommends we stay away from. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

No four digit number on the pass side front attachment leg?

  6. Yes, both have choke plates.

  7. No four digit number. Only number # 11 on one carb.

Get together the following, along with one or both of the carbs, and then call me at 573-392-7378 (9-4 Mon-Tues central time):

    (1) straight-bladed screwdriver (may have to remove air horn)
    (2) pencil eraser
    (3) strong light
    (4) strong magnifying glass
    (5) most important, a pair of "young eyes" ;)

Until then, guessing late model Pontiac. Pontiac used AFB's 1957~1967.

    Jon.

  10. Thanks Jon. Will call this week. Will have to do with old eyes but still have 20/20 with the glasses!

    Thanks, Art
