I have a Ford manual 3-speed top loader transmission in an antique race car. It's misbehaving some and I need to get it looked at. Trying to ID exactly what it came out of. The numbers stamped on the rear read 48-7006-P and on the front top above the inspection plate is 18-3485635. Any help sure appreciated. [email protected]

I believe the 7006 is Ford's base part number for the case. The 48 should mean the year and I am not sure what the P represents.

The 48 number means it's a 1934. The other (18----) number is the serial number of the engine/transmission assembly which became the s/n of the car into which it was assembled. For verification, go to Van Pelts site.

Pictures would help. Seventy plus years after the fact, it could have any gearset in it. Lots of early cases like yours got stuffed full of '39-'48 gears with a '39 style top.
