Anyone heard of filler that sets kinda like metal? Can be used on rusted panels. Coworker was telling me about it.

  7. is there any scientific proof that all metal is better than regular filler? or is it just a psychological thing because it looks like metal?

For rusted panels you need to weld in metal patch panels if you want it to set like metal. Fillers and all metal aint going to cut it......

yep thats how you deal with rust or atleast rusted threw. you should sandblast all the rusty spots. cant do good bodywork over rust.

Rage Gold. . . not sure what everyone's talking about it being so expensive. It's $50 bucks for a gallon, are guys really using more than a gallon of filler on their cars?

I build hot rods, so I guess there's less surface area. But I don't come anywhere close to using a gallon of filler on one car.

I think bondo works just fine. It's going to be a pile of dust on the floor anyway.

Rage Gold and yep it's really pretty cheap when you consider everything else there is to purchase. Rage vs lower cost brings a difference of 20-40 dollars on the entire build cost.

That is some good info fellow's !!!!
  22. before you express your unrequited love for a favorite brand-Find out who makes your favorite filler and you will see that it is likely not who you thouight it was.

There are only a few actual MANUFACTURERS of body filler in the USA....
3Mhas now saw fit to purchase and market Bondo filler,Evercoat and USC and others are also quality products as most modern filler is.....

A short-stranded fiberglass filler is great as a lasting repair, altho it is mean to finish and does at least require a skim of body filler over it to achieve good results....

Even tho a no filler repair is great if you can afford the work required-It is very reasonable to expect a repair made with modern filler to last many years.
It is simply a misconception that body filler is not conducive to a long lasting repair in this day and age.......
  23. sorry, i just remember paying $9 a gallon...and it actually WAS a gallon.

I've always thought it was used to try to fool the magnets.
Considering the corrosion problems when aluminum and steel are used together, I wonder if there'd be a problem with the aluminum stuff on a steel body?
  26. Tough to fool the magnets when it isn't magnetic.

    D'oh !

I used some of the "Bondo" brand of filler awhyle back on a buddy's kids furin POS...........this product wasn't the runny, goopy ,pin hole prone chit from days gone by, and I suspected it was a repackaged product from another source;) Is it as good as the $50 a throw stuff the puttyflingers are willing to die on the cross over..........nope! Will it answer for a low to medium budget build........yep!
