Anybody know what these are? I was told they might be Mercedes? I have searched and found nothing. thanks in advance!
^^^ I second that! (actually, I have no fucking clue, but I've been beating up on @VANDENPLAS lately, and I just want to get back in his good graces).
Very much indeed. Very similar to old " HELLA " but sure is a strange logo. Have you taken the glass out of the rim yet ? Maybe some real small letters on the glass rim such as DDR. They sure are clean inside considering the road rash in the glass.
I don't recall Mercedes making their own glass. I believe that it was always sourced from another supplier.
The headlight squirrel posted has HELLA lens. Another hint is the little rivet on top of the stainless rim and ofcourse the V pattern.
The Hella logo has contained the company name, since the inception of the company. The picture of the lense you posted says Hella in the glass, the OP's photo does not.
A lot of the american antique lenses have writing around the outside edge of the glass, under the rim. Perhaps another clue could be found there.
I asked around and the best I got so far is "I swear I've seen that logo before and I'm almost certain it's Soviet". The Russian glass manufacturers all had their own stylized logos- most of them within a circle like that. If I turn up anything more I'll let you know.
I posted a photo of the logo on another forum I'm on that has to do with old glowing electronic things, around the world...maybe someone will know and get back to me
Hmmm. Again, from the "similar but different" side of the house... Essex used something similar in the '30s.
