I did some more grinding and painted my "50s style" headers on my 56. They have the look that I wanted.

Here are the ones I built for my Chevy II. I bought a standard big block chevy chassis header kit and chopped them up.[IMG]

I bought these on Ebay years ago because I had a 394 Olds sitting that I knew I would use someday for a project. I am going to now use them on the rpu I'm putting together.

They were supposedly built in the 60's and whoever did them really did a nice job. The welding was via gas welding and the megs are old Ford torque tubes. The tubes sweep back and down pretty evenly and he even machined an endcap out of aluminum with fins in them. I am very impressed with how these came out considering how long ago they were made, and plan on using them just as they are, except maybe spray painted or coated.

I like them. They look like the headers that we got in the early 60s. They were made for clearance and not necessarily for optimal performance. They look a hell of a lot better than the modern Sanderson's IMHO

  23. Awesome headers, reminds me of an old fighter plane exhaust!! How are you going to finish them? From the pics they almost look like they were stainless from how they were heated. Really unique.[/I]

Thanks. They're going to be either painted or aluminium coated. the colours are from the reheating needed to straighten them after brazing the flanges on the outside (I TIGed the on the inner face). but for now I'm out of funds..

Did these for a few reasons. I am not a big fan of the sound of lake style headers. they kinda sound like open manifolds. The idea here was to put some length on the pipes to give a better sound. Still have not heard them.
