Hot Rods Head studs/dowels

    Just wondering if you still need to run the locating studs for cylinder heads if you are using studs instead of bolts?

    Since we don't know what the engine is, we can only generalize.
    Pretty much any engine I can think of has clearance around the head bolts or studs, and the actual precise locating is done by the dowels.

    So the dowels should be used even with head studs.

    Yes, use the dowels also.
    Most studs are NOT for 'locating" the head.

    Thanks for the replies. I,m just going to order some dowels.Thought I had all the bits I needed for my rebuild but forgot about the dowels.
    It’s a 354 Hemi.
