Join me September 21, 2019 for this inaugural event. This is a charity poker style run for 1942 or older traditional hot rods and customs built in a style 1964 or older. No late 60s show rods, no 70s style fad Ts, no billet street rods, and no art cars. I am trying to keep a tight core group of cars and people to go out and enjoy what our state has to offer. Starting in West Branch, Iowa(hometown of Herbert Hoover, president at the start of the Depression), travelling 125 miles through state parks, past a 19th century prison that is still in use, stopping for lunch at a restaurant that is in a Grant wood painting, and ending in historic Amana, Iowa(which was saved from bankruptcy at the end of prohibition by manufacturing refrigerated beverage coolers) at the Millstream Brauhaus.
The entry fee will be $40 and the name of your favorite charity. At the end of the day, best hand will win a small prize and the privilege of drawing the beneficiary charity out of a hat.
I will progress this thread with some pictures as the weather and my time allows. Who's in??

Sounds pretty great. I won’t be able to attend because my pre 42 car isn’t much of an actual car at this point and I think it’s the same time as the hotrod hill climb.

However once the A is driving it’ll be on my list for sure.... if your still having it in 90 years when that happens lol

  9. This sounds like fun. If I were a local, I'd drive my RPU to it. Good luck with your event.

    Nice route.
My A isn't much of a rod, only has reversed eyes and '35 wheels.
Amanas's are great, love the Model A show there.

Bring it out. I would love to have a tight group of true 1940s era cars but knowing that I live in Iowa that is not likely hence a little wider build style.

  12. Sorry, tangoential to the post topic, but that Pic you led the post with is righteous! Can you tell me anything about it... Artist?

Had supper at our lunch stop tonight. Place is way cooler but hate taking pictures of other people while they are eating. There is a deck off the back overlooking the river too. 18. I’m a native Iowan, born and raised in Cedar Rapids. If I had a pre42, I’d be there in a minute. Looks like a super cool run.

Did we mention scenery? First stop and go will be in Wapsipinicon State Park. We go through the woods, past some caves, over the creek, through the creek, and will stop down by the river for our first card. 566776E9-C393-44FF-8D4E-4A89AC99BB58.jpeg 5FF0A7A9-5737-41F7-A274-26DF977A655A.jpeg BFF20485-79FA-4437-9A5D-C002DAA075D6.jpeg D80AC499-3D56-4A48-A945-6E5F24996600.jpeg B8E295D0-6F69-4EFC-8E85-165759755C6D.jpeg 9AF20E04-63FB-4AD1-8AAE-B8405FD1ADEA.jpeg 1E4AEBBE-A149-416B-8BFD-A8A85DB19A89.jpeg 0833E67F-29D4-4F1A-8E0E-FADA8C4E359B.jpeg C06CE804-5EF8-436F-9495-A581AB0E5DC3.jpeg

The oil painting is "Stone City, Iowa" painted by Grant Wood in 1930. It is in the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha Nebraska. The lime stone building I have circled in red is where the lunch stop will be at, The General Store Pub.

I've eaten there and remember it being very good. The whole trip sounds like a good time but I don't think my truck quite fits the criteria. Have fun.

If you want to message me I will let you know. The strictest criteria is the 42 and older

The Millstream Brauhaus called so I threw a dart to guess how many to make a reservation for. If ya make me look like a fool, please be because I underestimated the crowd. See ya 10 am on a Saturday morning in West Branch Iowa September 21.

I don’t think my car is traditional enough, but it sounds fun.

Would it appear like it could have been built in the 60s? Is it a pre war body style? If in you think you are close you may be right. It is a pretty slim crowd right now. I may have to hitch hike because I don't think my truck will be done either, but the show must go on. My plan is to get the first one in, regroup and learn from it. I know nothing of organization so it should be fun...

  28. Wow! I haven’t been through there since I was a little hot rodder! I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. Thanks for the memories.

" If you want to message me I will let you know. The strictest criteria is the 42 and older "
"This is a charity poker style run for 1942 or older traditional hot rods and customs built in a style 1964 or older."

You might want to re -shout out to the Custom crowd as your strictest criteria of the 42 and older seems to be more stressed than anything else.

Slim crowd right now - I can understand.
Guys are wondering if their car even qualifies.

Why not make it cars 1964 and older instead of cars 1942 and older built in a style 1964 and older.

If it's for charity - open it up to more later year cars.

Your intentions are admirable - but keep it fun and simple - cutoff is 1964 instead of trying to micromanage the cars 42 and older is my suggestion.

Sincerely- I wish you good luck and hope it turns out ok.

( Hate to say this too but the Midwest Roadster Run is the same day so most of the Illinois fellas attend that. )

That's why I'm trying to help with my suggestion to open up the years of cars.

A small tight group of cars is more what I am after rather than a large 500 car event. If I could get 15-20 cars within a pretty tight time frame of the hot rod and custom world, I would be happy. Think of the Hot rod hill climb, the Romo beach event, TROG type of vibe in Iowa with a little history thrown in. Small group of like minded people and see where it goes, or fails. As far as the 64 and older and the 64 and older build style, been there, not where I want to go. I appreciate the input.
