That picture blows my mind every time I see it.

 

Not a particular car, but a particular style---1939 Deluxe and 1940 Deluxe and Standard Fords. I love all of them, coupes, two door sedans, even the four doors look good. 1940 and 41 pickups too, same front end styling. They lend themselves to all looks, stock, hot rodded, customs. Probably not many other body styles lend themselves to so many different looks and levels. Just shows Ford got it right the first time!
Have never owned one, and probably never will, but still love them. But I don't love anything enough to get a tattoo of it!

I'm not sure if he still has it but a friend of mine had/has This one for sale since he took it in trade for a 32 Ford RP. It's an older build but he drove it a lot for a few months before he got his 32 coupe back together.
I think that for me the idea of a certain style of car has been more of an obsession than an actual car. I'd never build a clone of anything but some rigs have heavily influenced this 31 A Victoria project I have. I got a big push on that from a photo that I won't show here showed up on FB today giving me the "OH Damn that works awesome" feeling on what I was thinking about.

Hello,

Ever since I saw this custom chopped 1955-56 Ford truck in our Westside Long Beach neighborhood, I have been in awe. It was the first custom truck I had seen, other than in those little Rod & Custom and Hot Rod magazines.

We saw this chopped truck almost everyday in the summer as we rode our bikes past the business and the truck was always parked out in front. It was a car show everyday. This truck was as nice as those that we saw in the magazines and car shows. But, it was driven everyday to and from work.

My brother and I would stop and walk around the truck. We would wave hello to the owner inside of his store and then be on our merry way to the neighborhood park for some basketball and baseball. (Admiral Kidd Park)

Little did we know that this truck would be our first custom truck sighting in real life. It has always stayed in my mind as a real hot rod/custom car/truck used as a daily driver, not just sitting in a garage.

I have been searching for photos of this custom truck forever. It should have been in one of the early Rod & Custom Magazines, Hot Rod Magazines or one of the custom car magazines. Everyone on the Westside of Long Beach would see this truck everyday, as it sat proudly in front of a small row of businesses.

The stance looked similar to this photo. DELETE those slot wheels and add in chromed reversed wheels with small smoothie hubcaps.

If anyone has access to those early magazines, I would like to have some photos. Since the owner's two grown sons do not have any photos of their dad’s custom truck, it would be a surprise to send them a few photos. Please send me a PM via HAMB Conversation link. ASAP.

I miss my old hooptie's (we called them Shot Rod's too) But I miss being Daddy raisin my four beautiful children much more those were Great happy fun time's...

Every time I see a black 40 Ford sedan with flames I think about Bob McCoys car, personally I like these flames much better than Bob's. HRP

 

As far back as I care to remember, say 1962 I was 6 yrs old and got my first remembrance of my dads friends 40 Deluxe Coupe. 39-40 my favorite car ever since. Never dreamed I’d end up with a convertible. Thanks to Sledge for hanging on to this one till I had the cash.

I think the Larry Roller 32 3 window coupe would be my second choice. (3WLarry)

 

Project "X" opened my eyes to tri 5 Chevys. My neighbor had a killer '55 2 door sedan with a flip front on it. always wanted to duplicate that car.

The Milner coupe made me realize all the differences between a '32 5 window (and what I liked about them vs other body styles) and all the years around it. Fell in love with '32's (not the short grille shell though). That's the reason I have a '32 hiboy now.

Another neighbor had a really nice short bed big window Ford unibody pickup. Lusted after it for years. I now have my own.

My goal is to have another '55 before I die. Had one but sold it to help fund the '32 build.

Personal favorite here: The Wayne Henderson Deuce Victoria.
It was understated elegance, and the build quality was top shelf. Often imitated never duplicated.

To date I have had 101 cars. My problem was that I was too infatuated with cars in general as a kid. I would own the car of my dreams and be driving down the street and suddenly see the NEXT car of my dreams cruising by. So the old car of my dreams got sold and I sought out my latest dream car until I bought it, only to find yet another car of my dreams. I once got s nastygram from the California DMV informing me that if I bought and sold one more car that year, I would have to become a dealer. At that time anything over 8 cars and you had to become a car dealer. I slowed down or never put the car in my name for a while. Now at 72, with 4 projects plus the roadster in my avatar, I quit lusting after all the dream cars and settled somewhat happily with what I have. Except for the elusive 46 Ford or Mercury coupe that I used to own.

I have the same thoughts every time I see HRP's shoebox in the classifieds.

I will admit that lately I have developed a thing for the Dick William's '27 roadster
