Folks Of Interest HAVE YOU BUILT A HAMB FRIENDLY RIDE FOR YOUR WIFE OR GIRL FRIEND?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HOTRODPRIMER, Jun 15, 2022.

  1. Long title for a simple question but, With all the members here I believe many of you have wives or girl friends that enjoy these old cars as much as we do.

Brenda has always enjoyed cars, her first car was a MG Midget, the next was a Mustang, but she learned how to drive in her Grandmothers '54 Ford Ranch Wagon.

I've told the story before, but long story short Brenda ended up with the wagon and it sat in disrepair for many years, bringing the car back to life took 7 long years and she loves driving it and sharing her story with men & women alike. HRP

Danny, when I was married, EVERYTHING I worked on, bought and built was “for her”. ;)

Now Danny is just bragging because he did a great job on the wagon and has a wife that’s into cars like him. :D I have pondered wether a wife that’s not into it is is a blessing or not. Mine isn’t, but let’s me do and buy what I want . That is a blessing because I never have to feel guilty coming home from a swap meet.:)

That was the plan......in 1983, still not finished, got some neat pieces for it though.
Sure wish I could talk about it here, two years not Kosher here and suspension is way too sophisticated for this joint.

While building our Model A I asked the wife manual or automatic? She said auto, so that’s what I did. I also put in heat and air. Thus far I’ve driven it more often, but she’s driven it the farthest. When we go to Hot Rod-a-Rama I haul the 5th wheel, she drives the hot rod. It’s a 300-mile round trip; she doesn’t stop.

Nope, not yet, but she wants a 47-48 Tudor or a A Tudor. Maybe one of these days she'll get it.

  14. My wife just buys what she likes. She got a 33 Plymouth and a 57 Morris convert. We work on them together. She mostly drives hers.

I actually thought about this topic earlier today. Always see someone with this “bought a project for the wife..”

your wife doesn’t want you to have another project. She just wants something cool to drive. So. Let that sink in a bit.
Ask your wife what it is she wants or likes about the old cars. Maybe it’s not waiting for them to be done or working on them.

also if them cars are titled to you, they are not your wife’s cars.

I tried. She saw a shoebox Ford on the interstate coming home from work. I found this car in Wichita (where I wish I'd have left it), she liked it but........as I worked on it her interests went another direction. She got into metal sculpture/art, so she was "tweaking" metal on one side of the shop while I wrenched on the car. The owners after me took it to the next level. She doesn't have an affinity for the 38, the Stude is OK, and she might sorta like the T I am working on now. That's OK she is a much better artist than I am a car builder:) B.png IMG_3944.JPEG iron horse.jpg

Bob, I retired about 15 years ago but I made the mistake of backing Brenda's business venture, she grew up working in her Grandmothers flower shop and she decided she wanted to have her own shop.

I go to the shop almost every day and take care of the accounting, thus I keep that end of the business going, I answer the phone sometimes and occasionally push a broom, and spend most of the day in front of the computer. usually the hamb is one of the windows open. HRP

  18. Paint and upholstered an OT Vette for the third wife. When it was done I sent 'em both down the road...

I keep trying, but it hasn't stuck yet... she thinks the cars I have are neat, but she doesn't care to have one of her own. Every car I complete, or buy, I say "you want to come see your new car??" She'll look it over and say "Pretty cool!" and that's about it. For a week or so the joke is about how it's "her" car, then she kinda forgets about it and that's that. It's a good system.. ha

Years ago, while walking the Turlock swap meet, she fell in love with a little white Corvair so I bought it and fixed it up for her. It’s a great little car and she loves it. She would probably drive it more if it wasn’t covered in the garage. She’s always running late so she just jumps into her Jeep. We take it to local shows and she has won some awards. That really helps keep her on my side, hot rod wise.
Her dream car is a Morris Minor woody and we got one, it’s currently in the paint stage.
It’s great to have a wife who appreciates the hobby.

I haven’t ever built one for my wife, but she has had a few that were barely HAMB-friendly. She had a 64 Impala she drove quite a bit when my kids were small. Then, I bought her a 62 Lemans convertible that I was going to build but life happened and the project didn’t. Then, I also bought her a 63 Corvair convertible, but she never really drove it partly because I never fixed half the stuff needed to make it a good driver. So, seems I am the slacker here other than she also isn’t real interested either. She does like my new 50 Buick so we will see where that goes.

My wife can't drive but if she could she'd want a new Ferrari. The one car we have that she's proud of is the C2 Vette, close as we'll ever come to a Ferrari. :)
