april 26th has been designated the hemis anniversary by mother mopar. this includes early and late model 426s. post your pics and tell your stories. no engine in history has dominated motorsports like the hemi has. happy birthday to all the whales and elaphants
I was co-owner in a couple of early Hemis, a 331" and a 421" -392, both were in slingshots 30 plus years ago, when nostalgia drag racing was pure. My fondest memories are with the 331 and this Fuller car. This video exemplifies the excitement a simple car with a well tuned Hemi can stir.
This is my latest 426 based engine. It's a Keith black dry sleeve water block. Standard deck height; standard cam height; 4.187 bore; 4.5 stroke for 498 cubic inches of fun. It's going in my street car that can burn gas or nitro.
Early hemi power here. A 354 with a 392 crank. Topped off with 10 bolt hot heads and a matching magnesium intake. Early or late model its all good.

I built this late model with brad Anderson fat heads. The car went 7.99 on alcohol with torsion bars a 727 and leaf springs. We put in a straight axle and put the car on 40 percent nitro and it went 7.47 at 189mph. It's crazy what a hemi on nitro can do.
The undisputed king of the streets Jimmy Addison silver bullet 67 gtx. This car was running ets equal to the era's pro stocks on the street. The car is still around Detroit and sees some limited track and street time.
I only have parts for one right now, (and they are some cool speed parts) but I believe it will be put together in a few months, and it will be loud and fast. Watching the video of Brians car makes me want it more, hopefully soon. Tony
Happy Hemi day to all! Stories? OK, grab yourself a cup of coffee, I'm up for that. Here is the story on my current project, which is almost done. Way back in the mid 70’s when I was in high school, I spotted a derelict model A coupe sitting in a vacant lot, not too far from my home town. It was an old hot rod, the license plate was from 1964. Channeled, no fenders or hood, engine was gone, old white tuck and roll vinyl inside, covered with a layer of moss from sitting outside too long. White wall tires gone flat, and a very faded out dark green paint. It was love at first sight! With some searching I located the owner, but he said not for sale. ”It’s just rotting away” I said, I’ll fix it up! But no, not for sale, ever. He was going to fix it up some day. For months, I lusted after that car as I sat through my classes at school, dreaming of what I would do with it, and I envisioned myself cruising the local scene with that cool hot rod Model A. I would drive over there and look at it every couple of months, and check in with the owner , but never was it for sale. As the years have gone by, and other projects happened, I never got that coupe out of my mind. I always knew that even though I couldn’t have it, I would build a replacement. And that is what this project is all about, building a car that I have dreamed of for years! At the start of the project, what I envisioned is what if the guy had sold me the car? What could I and would I have done? I would have put every dime I could come up with into the motor, of course! Everything else would have had to wait. So this project started out to combine the look of a bucks down high school kids car with my love for the big Chrysler Hemi, and some common sense stuff that I wouldn’t have thought of or couldn’t afford back then to make it a decent car. And an old school nostalgic look, like that old Model A. A multi-purpose car that will kick but on the drag strip, be street-able for long trips. (Back when I first envisioned this, the ratrod/patina thing had not really even started yet. But I've been so slow getting this project moving, that fad has come and grown patina of it's own. No matter to me, I'm sticking with what I planned) Back in about '93, I found a 392 hemi for sale locally, so I snagged it. That was the start. Then I found an X-3 intake for it. In '03, I found the body and frame, a 31 Plymouth coupe. True, it’s not an A, but it’s a little bit bigger, and I’m big, so the extra room will come in handy. Here is what it looked like when I found it: Over time, I got the Drag Week bug, and started making changes to the plan to fit Drag Week and NHRA rules, and to be safe and competitive. Project creep set in big time. But I'm still trying to stick to the original vision as much as possible. I found another X-3 intake, an 8 carb version. So here is my Hemi car as it sits now: Hopefully you'll be seeing some reports on this car from Drag Week 2018!
