    Thanks, Brother!!!

Speaking of bad automobiles, I can't wait to see @Zak Hall 's Anglia get finished. I couldn't wait any longer to post it up.

Saw this posted by @loudbang. Very slick. It's pics like this that make me waffle on paint color.

  8. Some colors just have to be seen on a car to visualize. Kodachrome made the world look good!

    Hello,

For us, we noticed that the wide slicks started in the late 58-59 era in our area of So Cal. Those that had the early slicks inside of the rear wheel opening, now had a larger radiused opening for the taller/wider M&H racing slicks. Then, in 1960, things started really changing.

By 1964, the whole drag racing scene was changing and narrow slicks were a thing of the past. Even the dragstrip had gone through several changes from those early 1959-60 drag racing days. It was all in the definition for safety.

If my brother and I had been able to continue our drag racing adventures, our rear wheel opening would have looked similar in late 1960 to the 1964 version of our friend, Atts Ono. He was our valued helper on our build and was a knowledgable pit crew boss/organizer for us. He was with us on each of our forays at Lion’s Dragstrip from all of 1960 up to the August end.
    :20 wide tires timed run

By 1964, Atts Ono had finished his immaculate 1940 red Willys Coupe for all out competition. My films came from the one time I went back to Lion’s Dragstrip to film the debut of the red 1940 Willys Coupe creation.

Brent - I concur. Clicking on the thumbnail will bring it up that big. I think your coupe will be similar, right?

I mounted some setup tires on my RPU, and am currently building new wheels, should wind up with around 2" sticking out. IMG_8518.JPG IMG_8519.JPG

  17. It's *really obvious* that an inch or two of rear tire stick-out separates period Gassers & Street Freaks.....
... from tubbed pro-street cars with a straight axle added in order to keep up with current fashions.
