I was at a local car show last week. where they had a table displayed with the normal HO-HUM trophies to be handed out, right in the middle was a Hand Built Trophy to be handed out to the best (UGH) Rat Rod. what a shame.
I inquired about the builder of it who is a high end restorer and I also got the history on the Trophy.

Most of the parts are obvious however the base is a over 200 year old piece of wood taken from the bow of a old ship, the goggles on the scull were used by a local racer from the 1950s era, the Piston and
Connecting rod are from a 3000 H.P. race engine, beneath the scull is a piece of Tan Leather when flipped up states it is from a 32 Bugatti.

This is one of the BEST I have ever seen. ARE THERE ANY COMPARABLES out there?

I guess those we're a lil off topic. Got to build these for Orion fest car show. Got to meet some nice people. Amazing cars. This was in Atlantic city. Flying "V" Art Deco inspired " hood ornament" attached to a carved wood base and mounted to a blower pulley. Lost wax cast bronze. Heavy metal........probably had upwards of 80 hrs in sculpting the master. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1438436421.699749.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1438436436.972956.jpg

Not sure about the Race Car Trophy but the others are what I am talking about. Much more valued to me than the STORE bought Crap.

I made and presented this one for Best Hot Rod at Billetproof NW a couple years ago

  9. That first one is nice, there's some parts on it that are nicer than what's on my car. Trophys are usually made from the scrap pile, not the display case.

The guys that make the trophies downstairs at the Detroit Autorama always do a great job. I don't have any photos handy.

We take pride in our hand-made, usually-kenetic trophies.

  11. Got this at Vintage Tin of Maryland's 40th anniversary picnic/show just for being the 40th registrant. They photo-etched the lens and put one of those push button closet lights behind it. I thought it was very cool and I really appreciated it. Vintage Tin 40th trophy.jpg

One we made for Pistons n-Paint 2011... the little trophy detached from the cooler for desktop or shelf placement... the brass plaque was garage-etched.

Every year at the Ford dealer in Gallup NM, the trophies are hand made by a local Indian artist from trophy 1.JPG trophy 2.JPG horsehair pottery and individually engraved.

Here are some I've made for the shop. We obviously have stuck to a bit of a theme.
I added bearings to the crowns in the first photo, so they would spin, for some reason. IMG_3603.JPG IMG_1442.JPG IMG_2009.JPG IMG_2324.JPG IMG_2644.JPG IMG_2645.JPG

Fascinating stuff. I believe there are quite a few other threads on this topic already. Gary
