Thanks heaps guys ill attack it tomorrow and get some shots up ,with any luck i will get it sorted.
Im not liking the layed back look, maybe stand it up, and section it a little.
Make sure its level with the cowl.
Your certainly making good progress.
Stood the grille up a little , i think thats a bit better.
With that done its door time ,I have to build these from scratch because there was none with the car and all the sizes have changed anyway .The originals i believe were flat with just a curve from top to bottom so its not rocket science here.Im just building the frame from 10mmx10mm bar then making a lip around it then ill sheet the finished frame in. once the frames are built ill make a decision about the final shape of the skins (might have to come up with an english wheel).heres where im at .
Got the hinges tacked up ,Ill start setting the latch up and a little fine tuning tonight to keep the gaps right
Drivers door nearly done .getting over this and theres still one to go. But i think its looking ok.
awesome build dude
I really like that engine mount/cradle up front.. looks cool.. Almost a shame that the radiator will keep it from being seen when installed!
Thanks guys,its getting there slowly.
Is that a hupmobile? I like the frame man...and I must agree with kiwi Jeff about the slanted grill but thats my own opinion. I'm liking the build. Keep it up
Make it low, loud, shinny and fast
Yep 1923 hupmobile .grill is fixed now, much better. Thanks erlomd.
those hupmobiles appear sometimes on craigslist, great looking cars...i remember there was a 3 window coupe hupmobile channled going for next to nothing. wish I would have bought that thing. hupmobiles rule!
Yeah the coupes are real nice wish i could have found one myself.
Finished the drivers door frame so i started on the tray ,to give me a break before the passengers door.heres some crappy phone pics
It takes a very unique and talented person to take what you started with and view it as an opportunity. An opportunity for something very cool indeed. Thanks for posting for us to enjoy too.
Thanks dude. Have been a bit slow lately ,recovering from the speedweek trip.Getting back into it now, have built the frame for the floor.
Mocked the tailght mounts and blended the tailgate frame. also finished the passengers door , thank god the doors are done . They sucked
My first real try at shaping metal ,started with 2 peices of scrap sheet ,and worked them into a teardrop shape, using a peice of rubber belt on the floor as a shot bag. and the back of the vice as an anvil .i have a lot to learn but its coming up ok.
as it takes shape a bit
having trouble loading photos but its in one piece now.
Bodywork going on .Starting to look like a car .I'm getting better as i go
Tray is nearly there ,and starting to feel like i own a hotrod not just a pile of parts.
have the tray finished then sprayed the body with por 15 I still have to beat and fill it ,just wanted to seal the metal.
Nice work but are you going to want to drive it? (rego) Your scrub line is non existant e.g frame will drag if you get a flat, Min 4" . You need to talk to TAC if you want to drive that thing.
thanks steve ,i think have that covered. ill be mounting hilux bump stops to the frame they are 100mm so that gives me plenty and they can bolt in and out if i need to
I look foreward to being out of the owning parts catagory haha. What is your x member made of? 1/8? .10?
so do I x member is 2.5mm same thickness as the frame rails its completely overkill but I think it looks cool
I like the overkill idea since Im still not great at welding. =S
Out of curiosity, how are the laws there when it comes to exhaust?
All the laws here are harsh but i have it planned, it has to pass a db test when getting engineers approval. And a few other things just crossing my fingers.
Well not much happening on the hup, still trying to get the 59 ready for rego. Had a few guys come round for some beers a while back, best my house has ever looked.
Dang that hup is smaller than I thought! And that cowl looks pretty cool.
Thanks dude, the cowl was one of the main things that attracted me to it in the first place . It doesn't help theres a 48 and an elky next to it, but it is kinda small. Looking forward to getting back to work on it thats for sure.
