I took a quick road trip to Michigan and Indiana to visit some "bucket list car museums this week. Here are a few of the more HAMB worthy offerings.

More from the Henry a really cool Deuce roadster I did not see any information on who the builder was. I would think one of the senior hot rodders would know. 32 (1).jpg 32 (4).jpg 32 (5).jpg 32 (11).jpg

That valve cover relief is just as cool as it gets.
There was a post years ago where one of the brethren used thrift store silver butter dish tops for brake cooler scoops.
    Just came to mind.

After the Henry it on to the Gilmore, I always thought the Gilmore was connected to the Gilmore Oil Co., but the guide said there is no connection. Most of the cars there were stock classics but still a must visit for any gear head. The museum has numerous buildings several are made to appear as dealerships of the period corresponding to cars inside. One was set up as a Ford Dealership of the Model A era. 20181002_181703.jpg 20181002_181627.jpg 20181002_123023.jpg 20181002_122918.jpg 20181002_181127.jpg 20181002_122042.jpg 20181002_122049.jpg

    I'm 99% sure I built "The
Victorian" as a model car when I was a little punk.

  7. A couple of years ago, my Dad, son, and I went to the Early Ford V-8 museum. It was incredible! This is one of those places that I could spend a day at and still not see everything! I had never seen the inside of a Ford V8

  8. I don't consider myself a "senior hot rodder" ... but I believe this is Dick Smith's (Chrysler HEMI powered) Deuce Roadster.

EDIT: Google is my friend! :) ... The Henry Ford - 1932 Ford Roadster

Next on to the Early Ford Museum in Auburn Indiana, it was in the process of a renovation and enlargement but still open for visitors. The cars, engines, and displays were randomly scattered around the building to facilitate construction but still could be seen with some careful navigating between the crowded pathways. The grand opening of the new and expanded version is scheduled for May 2019. Next up the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum. 20181003_101906.jpg 20181003_103420.jpg 20181003_103439.jpg 20181003_103450.jpg 20181003_103533.jpg 20181003_103634.jpg 20181003_103640.jpg 20181003_103646.jpg 20181003_103653.jpg 20181003_103844.jpg 20181003_102101.jpg 20181003_103658.jpg 20181003_103822.jpg 20181003_104015.jpg 20181003_104021.jpg 20181003_103352.jpg

The Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum is an amazing place it is housed in the original opulent showroom where prospective buyers would view the cars. The building was also home to the executive and design offices of the company. The building itself would be worth a visit even with out the cars. 20181003_085125.jpg 20181003_085147 (2).jpg 20181003_090604.jpg 20181003_092748.jpg 20181003_090441.jpg 20181003_091021.jpg 20181003_091212.jpg 20181003_091202.jpg 20181003_091220.jpg 20181003_093134.jpg 20181003_093320.jpg 20181003_093349.jpg 20181003_093357.jpg 20181003_093418.jpg 20181003_093405.jpg 20181003_093550.jpg 20181003_093700.jpg 20181003_093706.jpg 20181003_093714.jpg 20181003_093722.jpg 20181003_093726.jpg 20181003_094422.jpg 20181003_094440.jpg 20181003_094448.jpg 20181003_094513.jpg

  14. Wow! I've never seen a 36 dash with both the radio and ash tray! I never knew they just shoved the ash tray over if you wanted both...

A bunch of great pics of good museums. I revisited the Gilmore last week and it is always great to go and see the revolving display. The #28 Packard racer I would have liked to revisit again but they claimed was in deep storage. I spent two decades trying to prove that there was such a car built by Packard but fell on deaf ears. In I believe the year 2000, I got a phone call from a gentlemen who said he bought the car out of the jungle in South America. On it's return to US shores I helped document the car and oversaw it's restoration. I was able to present the car for judging at Pebble Beach and attended many shows all over the country for several years. It is an old friend for sure.

Spent many days at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Attended my first car show there when I was 9 months old-September 1951. Both are a splendid way to see some history preserved. Have not been to the ACD Museum in a few years but it is an excellent place to see some of the most luxurious works of art ever produced.

    Thanks for the pics.

By the way here is an old pic of possibly the same car that started out this thread (either the 999 or the Arrow). Ford early racer 4.jpg

Thank you for sharing your photos. I have visited each one and would remind others there are other museums in Auburn along with a cruise nite around the town square on Friday evening during the summer. One could easily spend a few days there. :)

Went to the ACD museum 25+ years ago when I was driving through. It is definitely something to see. Totally agree on the building being just as important as the cars.
