I think this chrysler speaks volumes in terms of where concept design and the kustom world intersect:

most notably the grille and headlight treatment, absence of trim and ornaments

woops forgot to end with a GM

my wife said I wasnt allowed to do this, so i'm mostly using the silver arrow concept as inspiration for my longterm ideas. i might have to use a veto.

    Ditto for that falconesque iteration.
Here's one that (I assume) never made it off the drawing board.

as the owner of a 64 impala these are pretty neat photos. I wish I could see more photos of the in between clay and production process because from what I found on this particular site, the 64 was not a pretty concept, but came out very nicely in the end.

i like to imagine I would have been employed doing clay or drawings for GM if I'd lived back then. if cars were today what folks back then thought they would be, I could see myself doing this kind of work now. too bad the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s, happened to automobile design.

I would say in this case the concept was cooler (much unlike the progression of the 64 posted above)

On one of my Michigan trips I met a gentleman who was a GM model maker and worked on the 1958 Chevy. He told me the original body design was more of a continuation of the Tri-Five cars. The big changes were not planned until the 1959 model year. During his work those 58 designs did get changed for things like dual headlights which Ford and Mopar had already started and other body changes which is probably why it became a one of year and still one of my favorites.
It would be interesting to see what the original 58 Chevy designs might have been.
