  2. Really.
    I would suggest being ignored.

  3. We watch this in class every year.
I use it to explain why the x chassis gm design was horrible.
Also demonstrates bad steering column and seat mounting design.
    Among others.
However, I tell them I would drive the wheels of of one.

  4. Boy,,,it’s amazing how that Belair passenger side fender just completely jumped off there .
It almost looks like it doesn’t have any bolts in it .

This is how dad’s used to be.

Me. “Hey dad can I have 5 bucks to go to the movies”.
    Dad. “ No”.
    Me. “Why not”.
    Dad.”Because I said so”.

To this you don’t dare say another word or give back a dirty look. Kids nowadays need some old school fathering.

    Approaching Oncoming Vehicle

When approaching an oncoming vehicle on a two-lane road, steer toward your outside line directly across from that vehicle. As the vehicle gets closer, you will continue moving toward the line, and as you pass one another, you will be at the outside line. If both vehicles were to do that, they would never be on intersecting lines.

  16. The other day I heard a funny term to describe the skinny jeans rolled up above their designer "work" boots, with mandatory plaid flannel shirt, and a high & tight haircut, with long groomed beard types –

    "Lumbersexual" :)

Pretty much like dropping a milk bottle on a concrete floor to prove glass isn't durable packaging........

If he's scraping you of the highway. I doubt you care !!LOL

  19. And it’s still a garbage chassis design. The X transfers all the collision energy into the drivers compartment as shown by the video.
Perimeter chassis can transfer energy around the the drivers compartment.
The guys doing the video used the best example of poor design to prove their point.
The forward mounted steering box and solid steering shaft performed exactly as designed.

Yes, our old machines are not as safe as newer cars, so we accept the risk, make them as safe as we can, and drive them accordingly.

I drive the car in the pictures above regularly. It's pretty much a wooden box on wheels. If I have a major wreck, I'm likely gonna be in big trouble. Even in this machine, I'm more protected and easier to see than if I were on a motorbike.

If safety is our utmost priority, we should all be driving new Volvos.

According to the school division here, buses are designed to protect occupants without use of a seatbelt [EXCEPT IN ROLLOVERS] and if they installed them it would actually put more liability on the drivers and school division. Besides which, it would be a royal pain in the butt for the driver to make sure everybody put them on and kept them on. However, new buses are going to have them [finally!].

I used it in a derisive manner, so as to gently mock an opinion which I deemed ignorant, without actually saying I thought it was a dumb-assed comment.

Ok, I'm late to the thread.

So I don't have to read the whole thing, who peed the farthest?

You can deem whatever you want to as "ignorant" However comparing the light weight roadster to that heavy ass tank you were in is not a fair comparison. the impacts would have been completly different. You are letting your fear cloud your mind because of the accident you were in. A simple test to prove just how different the impacts would have been is hold a basketball in one hand and hit it with your other hand as hard as you can. Then hold a balloon in one hand and hit it as hard as you can. You will get 2 completely different reactions. Now I realize we are not talking about basketballs and balloons here. But it makes my point.

Oh for cry'n in a sack... So, you're saying the roadster would have bounced harmlessly off the truck? Since it wasn't your "heavy ass tank", that was stuck and spun into traffic, your life flashing before your eyes, your prize possession demolished, your kid hurt, or you being assaulted by the ass-hat that hit you, I really don't see how you have a dog in this fight.

No I'm not saying that! what I am saying is that your comparison of the accident to a car half or less the same weight is incorrect. You getting all bent about it makes you sound like you may have some issues. lightin up a little bit. It's not like I killed your dog.

Some folks have trouble when their opinion is not accepted as gospel, some even more than others.
