He is right, but where does it stop ? driving the SUV is still a risk. Walking down the street is a risk. According to California pretty much everything and anything gives you cancer.

A quote from the great Bruce Mclaren, it basically became his epitaph. He lost his life doing what he loved when it really was very dangerous. He didn't have to do it, he wanted to.

“To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone.”

I feel safer in my coupe than I would in any RAV4. My heavy duty steel 40 versus plastic car. No thanks

Seatbelts and padded dashes are making our kids pussies. Real men have brain damage.

I'm more worried about my hot rod dying on the highway (which they sometimes do)...than I am worried about me dying on the highway.;)

My religious belief teaches me to feel as safe in battle as in bed. God has fixed the time of my death. I do not concern myself about that, but to be always ready, no matter when it may overtake me.
I've survived Catholic school, the Corps, ex wives, and a '57 Ford with no seatbelts, what else can happen?

    Great teaching opportunity
Inform your grandson about the millions of safety related recalls for safe new rides.
He needs to understand there is no 100% guarantee the safety features will work.
Explain risk reward to him. Everything has risk. From walking across the street, ridding a roller coaster, flying ....
If you ask the pretty girl out, there is a 50/50 chance for a date. If you never ask her out, there is a 100% certainty a date will never happen.

I should have died in cars 1000 times, and at least 998 of those tragedies would have been my fault.
Back in the 60s/70s, too many nights with a blood alcohol that's supposed to kill you outright, without needing a car. Not proud of that, but I did it then. Often. Drove a Bugeye Sprite intoxicated many times.
The Rav4 will kill you. You'll die of boredom driving it. And yeah, I own one as a DD, sadly.

My daughter-in-law hit a possum with her SUV. 7500 bucks later she got her safe SUV back.
    Plastic piece of shit.
I have over 200,000 miles on a motorcycle. Do you think a ride in a hot rod would worry me.

Changing the plugs 1000 miles from home...and you can see our only trailer in tow behind us. Memories don't make themselves...
