To paraphrase Dean Martin about Sinatra:

"It's Ryan's world, he just lets us live in it"

....and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Not the same, but I have a focus with my calendar and every season I get 'how come you never have a picture of my vehicle in your calendar?" "Or what does it cost to get in your calendar?"
I am the artist, the calendar is my vision and you can't buy into to it.
    Keep up the good work

Everyone should realize that this forum/journal is just like a paper magazine in that all of those have an editorial policy in regard to what gets published and what doesn't. I'm sure most of us on here are very happy to have a place to visit where we don't have to go thru a maze of advertisements and uninteresting articles in order to find what we love. I subscribe and joyfully read a host of car magazines such as Motor Trend and Car & Driver but, being first and foremost a hotrod lover, I sure don't want to see any of those cars on here. Here, we don't have to dig thru much to find really interesting stuff and feel part of a community. Somebody mentioned about this being an "honest" site and that is a word that very well describes it. It is true to the vision of the founders and operators. This is a site with a real heart and soul, and that is an increasingly very rare thing to find, be it here on the web or in the paper world. From the day I got my brass firewall tag with the fascinating story of how it was made, I've loved this place. Dealing with the public can be difficult. Thanks for all you do. And how you do it!!!

Darn. Just as soon as I hit the "post reply" button another thought came to mind. Kudos also go to just about everyone who posts on this site. None of us has identical tastes in what cars to build or how to build them. But it is really great to see so few whiners/complainers, and especially to see all the encouragement that is given. You can see a guy with a Top Fuel car avatar get excited about a guy building a custom '40 Ford. You can also see experienced gurus with fantastic building skills giving encouragement and kind words to the casual do-it-yourselfer putting something together as best he can. This really is a special community.

I don't post very often, but I have been lurking and learning for over 5 years now. The pickup I'm building fits the age requirement, but is not 'period correct' due to some of the the parts that I am using. So therefore I don't post about my build, but I continue to visit here daily as I enjoy what the site is about. I understand the rules and do my best to abide by them. I feel that I 'know' some of the people that I have never met here, just from reading what they post, and that gives the feeling of 'family'. Keep up the great work!!

  8. I am just honored to be part of this thing we call the HAMB. And if I post something that Ryan, or any of the mods. deem incorrect for the site and delete it, so be it, my MISTAKE. It is nothing to really get in a twist about! Ryan is the father, and we are THE KIDS. Besides, many legendary hambers have had threads deleted, we go on.:D

I have owned my car for 50 years, tradition is what ever I think it is, not what others perceive it to be.
I can care less what others think of me, my lifestyle or my Hot Rod.
Most everything about my car is hand made no kit crap. I do have disc brakes(for the last 45 years) and radial tires.
Most of the people on here are Compulsive Followers, who have no desire to do things their own way .

Tim, in post #6 put it in a nutshell for me, and I agree with him "period correct" is a more appropriate term than "traditional" for HAMB's rules of posting, IMO. And I have run afoul of that more than once here, most recently about the Porsche customized by Dean Jeffries.
But it's Ryan's site and Ryan's rules, by which I must abide, and there's way too much here that I like to leave over the things with which I disagree, so I'll still be around, soaking up the incredible knowledge to be found here on HAMB, just gonna keep my thoughts on some stuff to myself here on HAMB, Maybe one of these days I'll find a site where I can discuss some things better left unsaid here, and join up with them also. Sort of like "dual citizenship" I guess. Would take a helluva lot more than a little chastisement from the trad police to run me off, LOL!
But from here on, I'm gonna try to restrain myself!

So glad you brought it back up, I was getting sick and tired of builds having disk brakes and the stupid ass comment of "it's your car, build it how you want it". No no no, this is a traditional hot rod/Kustom forum.

There's a lot of ambiguous ass kissing in this thread, then there are the blatant ass kissers. Wheeeew

LOL' I guess I'm an elitist.I may not know enough but this is one of the places I go to enritch myself. I too like many types of cars but I look elsewhere to find and discuss them. Keep doing what you do, some people will just never get it.

    Thank you.

  17. Ryan started off talking about the rapid growth. Something I have noticed is: I check all the hammers in "todays birthdays" and usually send a greeting or two. I would bet that half, maybe more are people who have joined 8,9 12 months or more ago. MOST of them haven's been seen since, or maybe once. I think most realize their out of place and don't bother returning. If they/that eats up band width, eliminate the stagnant. It would save "space" right. Why should Ryan have to keep upgrading the site equipment to support non-participators? It's safe to assume that if you haven't posted anything in a year, your not likely a supporter. That said, I see some that have been here 8---10 years that may only have posted 40 times, or so. Got to be a way to figure it out. BTW, some have only contributed one thing, the link to their business web site. And, I like the narrow vision. Tim

I started making a living in the hot rod industry in 1962. My difference of opinion with Ryan is simply that this industry is under fire and, in my opinion, he has a responsibility to make HAMBers aware of this through stickies, etc. Even a link to SCEN or SEMA would be good without opening a thread for comment.

The HAMB does have a sister site for your OT speed machines, by the way. You can post your OT stuff over there, and "keep it in the family".

I know. I've been there. I was totally kidding. I come to this site because it's specific to what I personally like. Plus most of the people on here are not half bad.

  25. Well I guess being an old fart that was into this stuff over 59 years back lets me at least say something about this issue.
It is what it is and it is all good in my opinion. I have been living this hot rod stuff most on my life. The HAMB keeps me moving. I am thankful for this site and everyone that keeps it running. I also love all transportation vehicles. I have lusted for a 1965/66 Ferrari 275 GTB most of my days. Just watched Le Mans on TCM and I loved as much today as when I first saw it. But my heart is in traditional hot rods and that is this site for me! Thanks be to Ryan.

What I would like to see for issues like denis 4X4 and I brought up awhile back about the EPA's attack at the very heart of hot rodding ie; old cars with modified engines and other running gear, even off road on race track only. What is needed is a social group, off the main board so that folks who didn't opt for it didn't have to look at it, for those interested in the relationship between politics and cars.
How do you go about starting up such a social group?

The place is just fine the way it is.
It seems to me that the rules are really pretty simple.

    Thanks for a great site!

Those Westminster Dog Show guys are a bunch of elitist douches! Just because my cat doesn't fit into their narrow viewpoint.

    So much truth there.

This too! And make sure to put YOU in all caps and bold and italic and maybe some of those smile faces on there too.

That is the worst response ever, and the guys who want to do things "just to be different" and claim to be rebels are ironically the ones most easily offended when they're not accepted.

  30. Ryan,it's great for you to "stick to your guns". The vast majority of H.A.M.B ers are thankful it "is what it is" . What other site can you buy, sell, trade, and exchange great ideas for free.Keep it going "forever" and congrats to the members who follow your line of thinking!
