Just like modern mountainbikers those guys just used them for the most part as tool to get the job done. Most look like they were not real car guys. But, that said, old cars rock to haul toys. I have had mtb and ski racks on my 54, my T and hauled my bike around in the Rocky33

Cool video! I met “The Bull” Noll at his shop in Hermosa beach back in the day when I lived in Torrance and surfed the local beaches. Greg was a no shit guy. And his “bull” tag suited him to a T! Yup, that's the shop on PCH. I would go around to all the shops there and get logo stickers from them. My mode of transportation then was a homemade surfboard 2x4 trailer for my bicycle. It was a pretty long pedal from my place to the beaches but hey, I was going surfinf! Boy, those were the days!
Greg Noll lived quite the life. His surf films are great to watch and I recognize almost all of that footage from early surf films. It's crazy that he outlived his friend Bruce Brown, despite being older and wilder. Here's my signed Search for Surf movie print (sorry about all the reflections) and a hat I bought at his surf shop in Crescent City, Ca in about 1993.
When I was a kid, used to spend summers in Huntington Beach with my cousin. We surfed from sunup to sundown. We saw Greg surf and he was completely idolized by all the young surfers.
I would have loved to been young and alive at that time and place. After the bomb, but before the Beatles. Car and surf crazy in So Cal and the islands.

This is quite a trip down memory lane for me. Rick Griffin went to the high school I attended (Narbonne) and graduated from although a few years ahead of me but we were very aware of his surf art and characters. From grade 11 on, I printed the school newspaper.
The personality of Greg Noll is revealed in the documentary “Riding Giants”…He was not “P.C.” In any way….Some popular Noll advertisements…..The Noll “Da Cat” model is highly sought after….
@Ryan , I got to Hawaii in Feb of 1967. I was in the Air Force so we had regular jobs with ugly clothes. A bunch of my friends used to go to Waimea during the summer time as it was like a large lake. If my memory serves me correctly, Greg Noll was the first guy to ride the winter surf ( 60 feet ) at Waimea and live to tell the tale around 1957. Anytime we went to Makaha ( banzai pipeline ) or Waimea, Noll was always there with his group of surfers. My SURF car was my 65 Sunbeam Tiger. This picture is from Ala Moana Park. It was a great body surfing spot Thanks for a trip down memory lane
