Many hours of my life has now been spent reading and absorbing pages and pages of great information here on the HAMB. I thought it time to register and show the world that I am officially stricken with the great sickness that brings old car lovers together. Been to alot of shows and cruise nights in the SLC area in the last 20 years just to check out the cars and enjoy the ambiance, people and music. The bug has always been there, but it just never blossomed from lust into rust. Always a fan of the 30's buckets and roadsters, but never thought I'd be able to afford one. I also have a soft spot for 50's trucks. My first truck was a '57 Chevy I bought for $300 from the widow next door. My DD is 1957 International S-112: She's rough, but nearly complete and NO cancer. This is a 1930 Ford AA that I found "pasturized". Not much left beyond the cowl and front axle. Engine has two bullet holes in the front like somebody got mad at it and shot it like you would to put down a horse. This should be a real challenge to get back on the road, but because I am new to this its a good starting project; I won't have to worry about ruining anything! The barn in the background is full of old cars that the owner parked over the years. He gave me a tour and told me to pass the word. The cars are not advertised anywhere yet, but he does want to sell some of them. (He is keeping the "good ones".) Not for sale was 3 model T's - one of which was so nice when he pulled the cover off it could be put straight into the Smithsonian!! I believe it to be all original and the paint was still in great shape. Also not for sale was Skyliner Hardtop Convertible. Gorgeous car. What he did have was 2 '59 T-birds that still had nice original factory paint and good interiors- absolutely no rust I could see. 2 - Ranchero's that were similiar. 1 Edsel that seemed to be in above average condition for its age, 1 Chev 4-door not sure what year- maybe a '52?? Having heard stories about these great "barn finds" it was heart warming to see that they are still out there. He also had a pile of parts from who knows what. I recognized a Budd wheel that fit the AA and he GAVE it to me!! Score! Quite an adventure for green newbie! See you in the forums!
Where is this barn? I too live in SLC and also have an International. 1955 R-112. I like your S-112. I am getting ready to tear into mine. Good luck. Drop a line sometime if you want to bounce some ideas about the Internationals. Aaron
Welcome from Ex-SLC now Orlando... You might have seen this site before, great cruise coverage... http://www.thanks2frank.com/
I thought I would throw this up here in a 1957 IH S112 post. I'm looking for a front windshield for a 1957 S112. Called around Atlanta and everyone thinks its a big semi and not a pickup. Bought last night in Atlanta for $100.00. 99% rust free and wearing the original tires. I'm pretty amazed.
