I'm looking for anyone on here, or that might know someone, that raced or attended the first NHRA national event at Great Bend, Kansas in 1955. I'd just like to talk with them and hear their stories. Thanks.

  3. Paul Flynn sets up every Wednesday evening and Saturday mornings during the summer at the farmers market in Abilene, KS. The farmers market is located on Buckeye Street (the main highway thru Abilene) at the court house parking lot. He is a nice guy to visit with and sells awesome produce, zucinni bread, jellies and jams.

The Kansas Auto Racing Museum is home to the first NHRA trophy which held its first national event in Great Bend, Kansas in 1955. The first NHRA trophy is also on display at the Kansas Auto Racing Museum. The first NHRA event was won by Paul Flynn of Abilene, Kansas.

  4. The first NHRA nationals were run in Great Bend on Sept 29 thru Oct 2 1955.

The final runs were rained out and were completed in Nov. in Phoenix.

Paul Flynn may have won a race in Great Bend in 1955 but it wasn't the first NHRA national meet. Cal Rice driving the J.E. Riley slingshot dragster won the top eliminator trophy at the Phoenix race.
