First off, Congrats. Now, a far as wiser?. Guess not. But then again, you didn't have time to see if your ring and pinion was up to par for Mooneye's. Poor Bad Bob, he wanted so much to go for a ride to.

    Hell, been there twice allready.

I'm not a good judge of age, but I think Kiwi Kev is a tad older than my 50. No, I wasn't a wise teenager.

  3. I am 53. The grey hair and beard finally makes sense. As for the breaking parts, I just figure that is part of the game, find the weak links and make them stronger. It looks like the shaft through the spider gears broke and the side gears and locking wedges got destroyed breaking the carrier and chipping the ring and pinion in the process. I would have started with bulletproof 35 spline everything if I could afford it but I just work with what I have. I think my plan now is to try to trade my way into a 31 spline spool and get some new axles. I have 29 spline now. Car is not too heavy so that should be a good set up.

KiwiKev, What I like most about you is that you share everything. Your garage, your backyard, your barbeque, your beer, your friends, your family, your racing stories, your to-do list, and now your big family news. Thanks for it all man! BO

  12. Sorry about the breakage, I saw the run posted on another thread and I knew you must have broke something.

Congratulations on your grandchild! My father always said that if he knew being a grand parent was so much fun, he would have had them first!:)
My oldest daughter is expecting the end of this month so I'll be right there with you in the grampa club soon enough Kev!:)

  15. Thanks Mike! (zarbtime) and everyone else. It just struck me that of he MANY friends I have made on this board I have known Mike far longer. We met way back in the early 80's when he put me up for a weekend when the classic Chevy Club had their National meet in Missoula ,MT. I was probably 21 or 22 at the time when Mike and his wonderful family took me in. They lived on their classic Chevy junkyard and it was like heaven to me. I have pictures I wanted to add but can't find them.

You know, as I sit here looking at an NOS Ansen box part #107-6041 containing Gear Lock's here on my desk for my Olds/Pont rear. I've often thought how much stress is there be put on the pinion shaft for the spider gear's and could it fail. I guess it can.
