I have a '78 Granada V-8 rear-end that I would like to use in my early custom Hudson. The tag on it states that it is an 8.7. What differences are there from the 8.8. And yes, I know one's an 8 and one's a 7. I'm serious! What are the physical differences? A good technical reply would be greatly appreciated.

The 8.8 is a lot stronger assembly with bigger axles and bearings. the 8.7 might hold up under the Hudson since it will be more of a custom and street car. I would go with the 8.8 if no other reason than parts availability. There is a small pinion offset with the 8.8 so you need to check for floor tunnel clearance if you bag it and it gets close.

    Hi Aaggie,
Thanks for the reply. This will help me a lot.
BTW, I used to live over in the Humble area.
    Peace,
