I'm kind of a youngster to the hobby and was wondering what the "gow" in gow job means?
Wikapedia doesn't have anything on it. Anybody...?

Still nothing exciting to report. Still gathering a piece at a time… and thankfully I can see the light at the end of the tunnel :)
I was visiting with Chris and decided the tub needed a 41-48 ford or merc steering wheel. The more I looked, I really liked the appearance of a 41 ford steering wheel with the little stainless trim, and the look of a 41 Merc horn ring( plus it matches my hubcaps!) Did a little scrounging and came up with some good useable parts that don't need a ton of work. Also been on the fence on what to run for air cleaners. I borrowed some Bird cage style ones and I really liked them, but they don't filter..they just keep the rocks out. And they are EXPENSIVE. The more I looked, the more I liked the Hellings & Stellings small air cleaners. Long story short, I bit the bullet and now have a filtering system! I need to install acorn nuts and get rid of the awful wing nuts but that is a simple fix. The hose clamp at the base of the air cleaner bugged me so I was lucky enough to find some NOS thumb style clamps that are the perfect size and all match… So not much to report but stoked for the little bit of progress.

I know right! Slow and steady wins the race. Really hoping to take the tub for a cruise this summer. We will see.

So my wife and I had a little boy about a month ago now and sooo progress has slowed way down. I took a few day off work to have a relaxed 4 day weekend so I have been tinkering some. I have been having bad thoughts to go tune port and IFS on the tub for a while.... Just kidding. I have been on the fence for taking out the hemi and going flathead though... so this weekend I did it. Yanked the hemi and dug out the flathead block and swapped it all around. I am feeling relieved that I decided to go this route on the tub. The Hemi fit, but requires alot of little mods to make it work with the direction I'm going. I didn't want to split the bones and the bellhousing and starter ran right into it. I would have to modify the K member to raise the stock tranny mount to gain clearance for the belhousing. Steering column hits the head bad which also requires the engine to be raised. Which isn't a big deal, but not what I wanted to do on this particular build if that makes sense. The hemi will go in the growing pile of parts for the next one and the tub will be flathead powered while I am the caretaker!

  18. I don't think too many will argue that you're making the wrong choice.
The mods required to run the Hemi is an easy deterent.
Flathead will suit that car better, in my opinion.

    Congrats on the kid!

Hey Thanks! I forgot to mention we named him Tucker!
Yeah once I got the block in, I had the same thought too. When I was in my early twenties, I drove a flathead powered 34 roadster with basically the same drive train and I remembered it was a blast to drive. Just couldn't get that thought out of my head. I think the hemi is destined for a full fendered highway cruiser/pavement pounder.

This has been the best tinkering weekend that I have had in a very very long time. I have been trying to bolt my extras into a rolling parts pile so i have less to trip over and to see whats there... plus if I need some room to work I can push it outside for a bit. A little red oxide primer on the bare steel might match the frame decently. IMG_0387.JPG

You know, after being in the garage all weekend staring at the tub, I'm starting to have the bad idea of letting the spare frame and parts go to a new home. This is really the first time I have ever been truly content with a project and not be itching to start the next project.
