jalopykid, That's my phaeton Lynn posted pictures of in Wisconsin. When I originally built it I didn't move the front seat. After driving it a bit it was clear I needed to move the seat back, and I'm only 5'11". I moved it 4" actually, not the 3" most get moved. The seat turned out a little "modern" looking the second time around, but that was because I wanted a high bolster under my knees to improve driving position. Now it's really comfortable, I just wish I had figured all this out the first time around!

Looking forward to following your build, have fun with it!

PS - Tops are for roadsters!!

My '28 tub is an Aussie body. I adapted Tudor subrails instead of using wooden rails as they had completely rotted away. Not a straightforward job, but it got the job done.

  3. Any more pictures of this? Or better yet, a build thread?

Did you move the front seat backwards?
    To gain driver comfort?

I'll get some more pics sorted, maybe do a thread, a little later.
I didn't move the seat back though if I did another I would. I'm 6' and it is a touch tight.

This is perfection. Portraited in black...everything where it belongs. (especially the front seat: from a 6 footer who's been cramped before!)
Overall beauty of this Phaeton inspires my '27 Hiboy tub. Black it is.

  7. Yes PLEASE
I just ordered the subrails, seat risers and floor to do the same conversion to my wood framed 28 Tub body
Maybe "body" is an exaggeration ......... pile of panels is probably more accurate.
So any lessons you learnt would be appreciated

Not much to report. Still in the gathering stage picking up little things here and there. Picked up some K legs from industrial chassis to strengthen up the frame. Also found my last gauge so now all the holes are filled in the dash. Just need to re-clock it. To top off the excessiveness of the dash, I thought it would be really cool to have a clock mirror so i ended doing some trading for one. Hopefully will have it here in the next few days. Also found a spalding ignition with tach drive and vacuum advance for the hemi a little while back. Can't wait to put it to use. Oh and here is the mirror. It matches the gauges really well. So stoked!!

Thanks! I have turned into one too during the 3 years it took to gather them all. Well worth it though.

Doesn't matter now with the change with the dash but the one that use to be in the car was out of an Arena Craft, late 50s. I have one on the shelf too.

    Very cool build jalopykid

I've always loved the tubs! When I was a kid, bought my first Car Craft Magazine (March 1966) That was my first build of a '32 by Dick Scritchfield. I was hooked then as now. I will enjoy it as much as I did back in '66. By the way, I have the magazines with the build from 1966! Looking forward to your progress!

Still no exciting progress…just trying to gather a few more pieces for the tub to make it complete. Its starting to look more and more like a car. I didn't get to shortening the torque tube last weekend so I am hoping this weekend maybe and roll it outside? Here are a few pics with some of the additional parts. Nothing to exciting but everyone love pics right?? Pretty stoked to have a windshield… and glad to have my mirror bolted to it. I love a full hood or no hood, and love the texture of louvers so I went with a full hood. A good friend of mine hooked me up with a bitchin shift knob and a stocker column drop!!! So awesome. Also picked up a blinker switch so now my headlights can blink.

Here is the front view. Went with a 2 inch chop for now. I think it will work best with the proportions of the tub body. I might chop it more later on.
