I have settled on a traditional highboy 32 rails yada yada for my 31 coupe. I can save a couple bucks just buying rails and taking it from there or buy the done frame. I know I will save at least $600 buying the rails and doing it myself. I won't attempt it without a frame jig to keep her square. So does anyone have one for rent or use/borrow? If not I'll calll the kiwi connection guys and get it over with. Thanks
frame jig in the classifieds is in the midwest somewhere... it'll cost a fortune to get it to socal. might as well buy the chassis from kiwi konnection, Squeaks prices are absolutely fair... friends that have used ASC say most rails require extensive massaging fresh off the press... i know he does all of that in a rail jig then assembles with crossmembers on a different jig. that cost is already factored into the asking price. have you seen the prices for gennie rails lately? its obscene.
I just ordered a frame from Squeak, and he was very cool. They build it exactly the way you want it, and it's a super fair price. If you live close and can pick it up, it's hard to beat. I am paying for transport on mine, and it still came out cheaper than what everyone else wants for their basic frame with no mods. I thought about getting rails too, but I'm in the same boat as you.
I would just call Squeak ... Let him pull the frame in to fit a 1931 Model A body ... Save a few $$$ elsewhere ...
This one was built at home using a couple of steel saw horses made from scrap pipe and 1 x 2 steel tube for the horizontal piece. 1/2" carriage bolts were put in each leg for leveling. Level the horses, square them with each other and mark their locations on the floor. Use 1x1 tube for temporary x-ing once the rails are square. The frame in the photo is square, and on the road.
Call Squeak, One of the nicest guys out there, and an excellent frame. You will end up saving time and money in the long run. Jimmy white
