Goodbye red hose, hello aluminum hard lines!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Probesport, Feb 23, 2010.

  1. It was time to let the cheezy red fuel lines go and step up to a more finished look. I got in touch with Dickster again (who I got my dual 94's setup from) and got some line & fittings from him today - and wasting no time I got them setup tonight. I must add that I love working with aluminum line, it is very forgiving and easy to work with. Thanks again Dick!

Nice job !! what is your alt. mount off of. Gary

  4. A word of caution, Ali can work harden and crack from vibration so keep an eye on them for leaks.

Nice job though, I like them much better then the hoses.

P.S. This is just a word of caution not criticism, I would just hate to see anyone's car on fire. It's the hard way to do a flame job.

What motor is that? Is that a SBC? I can't believe that I'm actually asking that.

What ever it is, it sure looks great.

Copper, steel and stainless can work harden as well, I don't think he will have a problem as I have done lots of aluminum hard lines like he has done and the distance is not far enough to be a problem.

Well said. The aluminum line I use is not your hardware store variety but rather aircraft grade. And truth be told I purchase it from an aircraft supply distributor. I have used thousands of feet in 1/4", 5/16", as well as 3/8" with no failure, although a few years ago I DID have issue with the aluminum line I was buying from "speed shop" suppliers.

Looks much better the the red lines. I was going to do this on mine but had no luck finding the right fittings. Where did you get hold of yours?

  19. Alt mount is an older Speedway one.

Thanks Dick, couldn't have done it without you..

Some late 70s early 80s Volvo from the Junkyard, it was a belt guard that I grabbed cause I liked the shape/look and knew I would use it on something.

Oh yeah, lots of things being done. Winter is a bad time for me, it gives me a chance to tear everything apart and start over.

The red lines ran all last year and did look good doing it, I just get bored easily and I was over the novelty.

Thanks, the pics don't show the color properly, it's a bit more green than blue in person.

I got them from the same man I got the carbies from - www.dickshotrodplace.com

Bitchin' look, much safer than soft lines. Hard line should always be used to carry fuel under pressure.

Lines and engine look great, but how is a 350ci going to run with such a small intale air flow?

  24. Runs pretty good, I haven't had any issues with performance. Granted it's not a drag car but it definitely gets out of its own way.
