Hello, me and the wife are going to be in LA for at least a day in August and I would like to know what the must see locations are. We have been there before and seen the walk of fame, hollywood sign, Manns Chinese theater and some of the other tourist places.
I would like to see some hot rod/custom car history. I have read about these places since I was a kid but being from Ohio not real sure were to look.
We are going to fly into Vegas and spend our anniversary and a couple days enjoying vegas and then head to San Diego and drive up the Pacific Coast Highway to San Fransisco stopping at things we wanna see on the way and then head back to vegas to fly home.
We got married in Vegas almost five years ago and this is going to be a great trip for us and any must see things you guys could help us out with would be great.

How about the Peterson? Lots of hot rod and custom cars inside!

  3. Petersen for sure, and the NHRA Museum at Pomona if you have time.

There were many recommendations to visit here http://www.philippes.com/ on the GNRS thread. We did, a fantastic place for lunch, great food, and very cool.

I would love some museums but not really a lot of time for something like that. Looking more for landmarks and such, thanks for all the responses. Tat sounds great but a little pricey for vacation...lol

  10. If you are brave (just kidding) drive the coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles. That will put you on the cliff side where it is easier to turn out to enjoy the view. One important question, what is your wife interested in? You might check out Hot August Nights in Long Beach, (562) 513-1955, Aug 3-6. This is the first year and I don't know what to expect.

dont scare him, highway one is beautiful!!! cant be matched anywhere!!

  12. Forgot to add be sure to stop at Point Lobos State Reserve near Carmel. It's south of San Francisco on the coast. Small park with excellent coastal view.

My wife is making her own list of things to see so we will compromise on what we see. We plan on driving the PCH from San Diego to San Francisco. Should getting a hotel room along the route be hard? We will probably stay in the San Diego area, LA and San Francisco. Plan on driving from Vegas to either San Diego or San Francisco and starting the journey. Wanna try and Leave Vegas on the 17th for the coast and return to Vegas on the 22nd to head home. Not a lot of time but that is about all we can muster cost wise. Renting a convertible, probably a lame Sebring but a Mustang or the like cost way more per day...

yes if its during the week you should be ok, if i were you i would fly out of frisco. vegas sucks in my book, guess ive been there too much? why make the drive back. soo much more to see then vegas. google map your route, that way you can see what hotels are on the way. that way you could call ahead. and remember we have 9 3/4 sales tax. i remember talking to some nice people from out of state, they were mad about the 10% sales tax.

We were married in Vegas so thats why we are going there first. Our sales tax is 7.5 I think so 2 1/4% more should not be to bad. We have went to Canada a couple of times and with the GST and PST tax we should be pretty good....lol
