GM Rear Axle ID

Let me start by saying, I already searched.. It's a GM code F287, 8725889 rear axle. We believe it to be a '57 Chevy axle. Any input?

F 28 7 is a 1957 date code. If the center section drops out the the front, and it oval shaped, it pretty much has to be from a 57 chevy.

Pictures would say for sure, but as Squirrel said, if slightly oval shaped and front drop-out that is similar for 55-64 Chevy rearends.

 

Wasn't 57 the only year with a drain plug?
